Good God man. You are such a sniffling douche.
So if I understand correctly....hypothetically (which never happens this way, but for hypothetical purposes)....car dealer buys X car from auction, individual, wherever, for $15,000. Car X has retail value of $30,000. Dealer puts $3,000 into car in reconditioning, pack, etc. Dealer sells X car to grandma for $28,000. Grandma gets X car for $2,000 less than retail price, and car dealer is dishonest and a piece of shite because he gave grandma a great deal and made good money in the process?
You need to get a grip, guy. I'd bet you are a strong proponent of socialism.

Here in DC, I know of one guy I have met that has claimed to pull 120-150 every year. But he is wildly inconsistent, bouncing among dealerships.
Not saying it can't happen but I'm skeptical.
Edit: BMW and Mercedes dealers new, not used.

lol I think he was referring more to the buy here pay here lots like my friend owns with 20% financing rates and if you dont make payments they shut off your car from the office and leave you stranded and you cant go get your food stamps. I think its awesome my friends lot is simple, theyre all trash cars you owe $99/week thats it, pretty straight forward, its not his fault people end up paying $15k for a $5k car.

Well, the reason folks pay 20% interest for a car is because they are in a demographic that typically doesn't pay their bills. The 20% interest ensures that out of those borrowers, the lender can actually turn a profit. Many of them won't pay, and the dealer/lender loses their arse on individual deals. If they don't want higher interest rates, they need to pay their fricking bills.

Actually, I did...when I started this thread.

High value vehicles, maybe. I sold cars, I doubt anyone at the dealership made over 80k except sales mgrs and above. That's where the money is.
There were a couple of people on food stamps. Car salesmen just don't make the money they used to.

On average?
The good salespeople make a lot of money and the bad ones make squat. Nothing really in between.

I knew some people who made a lot of money with a few used car lots. But apparently they weren't making all their money on sales as they were busted for laundering drug dealers' money.

It doesn't seem like cars move at the Mercedes, BMW, and Porche dealership in B.R. I see the same cars sitting there for many months as I go window shopping.

I talked to my friend who owns his own lot.
He does have a lot of years working for dealerships as both a sales manager and salesman.
He told me that you have a lot of people get in it for a temp job not willing to learn may make $28k to $40k depending on volume.
These people are learning or do not care to learn so they do not close as many sales.
Now when you weed through these people and they get 1 or 2 people more experienced, learn to ask the right questions, and how to close these people can make $60k on up depending on year, floods, lower interest rates, type of dealer, or repeat business.

I have no doubt car salesmen, new and used, make a good living. People willing pay way more than they need to for vehicles.

You are full of fricking shite if you think a used car salesman pulls down this kind of money.
If a guy works on a giant used car dealership in DFW, I guarantee he can make this kind of money if he's good enough.

I dont know, but all the ones that hang out at Ice House on down airline ball like they are $30,000 Millionaires. I believe a prerequisite is playing golden tee nonstop.

Both of my business partners own car dealers, one has several new franchises and the other owns used dealers. As far as employees go, in a new dealer several of your salesmen and your managers will all be 6 figure earners. The majority of your salesmen will not be. Think 80-20 rule.
At the used dealers most guys selling are salesmen and sell the house's inventory. They make some decent coin and good ones break the 6-figure mark. The best ones will make over $200k but those are few and far between.
The real money comes where guys are setup as brokers. Basically the house provides them with the line of credit and they buy and sell their own inventory and pay the house a fee structure for using their floor plan and infrastructure. Basically these guys are operating as if they setup their own dealership in regards to inventory but they get to do it without all the other headaches and lower risk. Their top guy doing this made over $800,000 last year.
When your pay is based on a % of profits there is a very broad range of possibilities and generalizing or speaking in averages really doesn't do much good.
