How much data do I need in order to use Uber in Europe?

Going to europe and I want to be able to use Uber when I need to get from one place to another sometimes. What would be the best way to go about doing this in terms of cell phone plans?

I went to Paris this summer and burned through 300MB ($60 fricking dollars with att) in a little over a day, using google maps for walking directions and uber. You can also use wifi with uber, so you might get away with that at many places if you plan for it. The only "good" news is that the $60 plan didn't discount data any: once I went over they billed at the same exorbitant rate.

Same experience as Gary, just planned on using it if I needed directions. Still burned through way more than I expected. Do take advantage of the fact that almost every hotel will have free WiFi. And check out this site:

Wifi is everywhere, just find a store with wifi and stake out there until he shows up

I just got my $320 bill for 11 days in Italy last month. I don't think that was too bad, wife and I both had calling plans and we were using phones just for navigation and communication with our friends there with what's app. Used 448mb.

Yep. Turn off cellular. Grab a physical map for emergencies from your hotel or print it out.

Many places have free wifi. We didn't even have plans or service at all. We used free hotspots to signal our uber and didnt have to use data.

Yea i wish i had planned ahead to have an unlocked phone to use one of their sim cards.
They have to pay by the text like the old days, but their data is way more generous than ours. That is why a lot of the texting apps are popular over there, cause they use data, not sms.
Download google maps for offline use while on wifi. I had the same experience blowing through my data while driving and using google maps.
Moovit is a helpful offline app that shows public transport and will update locations without data being on.
I dont know if uber is available anymore in France at least. there were riots and whatnot while i was there where cabbies were throwing stuff at suspected uber cars, etc.
I know you didnt ask, but get a google hangouts app and use a gmail account to call people back home on wifi for free instead of 1 dollar a minute nonsense.

Where in Europe? Many countries? If staying in one or just a couple, bring an unlocked phone and buy a Sim with data when u get there. Most countries this is simple, London has a vending machine in the airport. Will be like 15 bucks.

Before you leave go to your cell provider and ask if they have an international plan

Don't get anything over here. Buy a local simcard when you get there. Data rates there are a fraction of what you'll pay here for some sort of international plan.
We went to Berlin last year and I paid like €10 for 2 GB of data. Dirt cheap. Same day I got an email from ATT offering 750 MB for like $75.
Just make sure you have an unlocked phone. Verizon phones will NOT work over there.

I had one in Japan, so I don't see why not. Probably should mention I had a year long contract so maybe that's not the best way to go. Happy Holidays.

Depending where you are, it's cheaper to bring an old phone, pop in a sim card, and get a local prepaid plan. I did this in Costa Rica for about $20.
