re: How much are plant operators at the LNG plants making per hour?

No, the argument is plant operators blatantly lie about quality of life, hours worked to achieve pay, and somehow can't fathom that shift work and OT isn't normal for most high earners.
Again, there's nothing wrong with working in a plant.

Name them. What industry pays the premium and contributes the max HSA/FSA amount for its employees.
My premiums are $140 a month but I make a lot more money than you and don’t work OT
I’ll be self insured by my HSA soon

have worked in a ton. How many pay your insurance premiums for the entire family and have no deduct insurance with $1000 max OOO. I'll hang up and listen.
Tons of employers do this or similar. My last several employers have and they run from the government, large firms, small firms etc. Some of them only paid 75-85% of the premiums for the wife and kids but mine has always been covered, always low or no deductible and low out of pocket like you described. Max HSA contribution if you chose that route.

No with 1k overtime hours you bring in 200k plus every 7th day you work in a row is double time, you work a holiday it’s double if you’re off on a holiday that’s 8 hours of pay to be off and if you work an unscheduled holiday 2.5 times your hourly rate

Everybody that doesn't actually work these jobs knows better. Its not worth the time or effort to do a breakdown of our pay scales. Easier to let people believe what they want. I just threw some info out incase someone who's really interested in these jobs has a rough idea.

Every single operator here is the 1%, we get it. They work enough OT to triple their salary, but are also great family men and never miss an event. Totally makes sense

Nowhere near what I said, but whatever. You have your opinion I'm good with that.

Every time this thread gets started it’s the same people arguing that you can’t do this job and have a family life. It’s the same people that have never done the job. They don’t understand the benefits packages or the schedule. But they sure make a lot of assumptions.

There's only so many hours in a year. The issue is when you talk about making 150-250k, most seem to think working that much OT is normal.
OT isn't a normal thing. Working at a plant is great I'm sure. However, I know plenty of family and friends that do it or have done it and the shift work fricking sucks. These guys are zombies and have become slaves to OT pay.
Plant workers also get their feelings hurt that there are lots of people who don't work shift work or OT and make more money with the same or better benefits.

Why not just say this year I worked X hours and made Y?

So the operator hate is about everyone thinking we are lying?
lol.
lol.

Everyone that I personally know who makes more money than me works very hard for it. They earned it. They deserve it. But none of those cases involve 36-40 hours a week. None. Most of them actually include 8+ years of college, $200k+ debt, and thousands of hours worked beyond the 9-5 that aren’t even classified as overtime bc they are paid salary.
Unless your name is Elon Musk, there is someone out there making more money than you while working less. The same argument you have against plant workers, someone else could come in and have against you and whatever tf you do.
Posted on 12/27/25 at 10:05 am to Dicky
Of course they could, but you guys have serious issues accepting and admitting how many hours you work to make the money you make.
I couldn't care less what people have to say about what I do.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I can tell you a little about my uncle’s experience working at a plant. When he came home from the Korean War he got a job with the construction crew that was building what came to be Monsanto in Luling. As the plant neared completion they hired a lot of the guys that were on the construction crews. He worked his way up the food chain and became an operator of one of the units. He worked there until retirement in the late ‘90s, working there for 40+ years.
I’m not sure how much overtime he worked, but he had the reputation that he caught more fish, shot more ducks, and killed more deer than anyone in his neighborhood. He sent a son to LSU and he became a college professor. He sent a daughter to Tulane and she became a doctor. He brought his kids on great vacations every summer. He bought some acreage, built a house and barn and pond. He had horses that his kids could ride, and his nieces and nephews.
Unfortunately, his wife, my aunt passed away about five years before he retired. When he retired he bought a brand new Cadillac and used to visit some of the local juke joints to Cajun dance. Supposedly he was very popular with the ladies.
Family lore has it that when he retired, between his pension, stock ownership in the company, etc, he was worth about 1.5 million. He considered the plant his family, after retirement he continued to interact with his fellow workers. Over the years, these guys fished together, hunted, coached little league baseball and became part of each other’s lives.
For a guy with limited education, his plant job at Monsanto was a godsend.

It’s a big world out there. the universe doesn’t revolve around southwest Louisiana

I support you operators and anyone who works hard and contributes to society.
Even if you are not working tons or overtime, you are making very good money for living in south La. Despite the chest pointing by some of these insecure folks. There aren’t many well paying jobs in this state.
Keep fighting the good fight.
