I went for a little over a month after high school. I worked 16-20 hour days glazing hams for almost for a month while being paid under the table to get the bulk of the money. Started in Russia and finished in England. I was born and raised in rural appalachia. It was a good time.

People in Normandy tend to have an appreciative view of Americans who visit because they or their ancestors were directly liberated through D-Day.

The rest of the country? Not so much. And as I said before, Parisians are assholes.

I had a French professor when I took my business languages class and he says that anyone not from Paris is looked at as a provincial hick by Parisians, no matter where in the country that person is from.

Kind of like people from LA and New York viewing everyone else as being from "flyover country".

HEY!

I resemble that remark!! Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk!

FYI, a tour is the only way to go if you are an introvert traveling solo.

Japanese are infinitely more obnoxious in Europe than Americans. At least, as I've noticed.

Possibly the most arrogant group that travels outside of Israelis and Americans.

An anecdote about overseas Americans. My sis is a military spouse, and lived in Europe for several years. My sister and her husband always lived off base in the local community, made a lot of friends, and had the time of their lives. Most American families rarely set foot off base. They might as well have been living in the US. There were all kinds of cultural activities to try to get people to engage with their local surroundings. Most were sparsely attended. A lot of people viewed being stationed there as a hardship. My sister loved it. It's all about the attitude you bring to the situation.

I was in Europe for 10 weeks. The idea that all Europeans hate Americans is overblown and perpetuated by the media. A disdain for "America" is somewhat common but not as much as you might think. It's the same type of bashing that we hear from alot of ultra-libs here. There's just a few more ultra-libs there.

Had the same experience as this guy. I was in Paris, The Netherlands and England for several weeks.

You got it backwards; they sent all their poor white trash here on the Mayflower or the Hindenburg or something.
