Man you really hate something that has close to zero negative affects and is 100% free with insurance.

Not telling me anything I don’t already know. We discuss the flu with our infectious disease doctor several times a week at work(already had an outbreak of it in one of our units). My county posts a weekly flu report that I keep track of and report to hospital staff. The last one I reported out showed my county having a 846% increase in flu cases compared to last season. When looking at the specific week compared to the same week in the last season there was almost a 1500% increase.
Flu season is really bad this year, pretty obvious. We’ve already had a good number of patients die from the flu. One close to my age that was otherwise healthy.

Again.....pretty common knowledge that the flu shot isn’t 100% effective. The virus mutates too fast and too many strains so it’s an educated guess on which ones will be prevalent that season.
However it is much better than not getting it and having NO protection from it.

Never had the flu. First time in my life getting the flu shot, and I came down with it last week.

Most geriatric patients coming to our ER are admitted w/o question. Hell one of the assisted living facilities sent their ENTIRE communties over one day (35) people due to outbreak at their facility. 2 hospitals in the area have been on ER divert with ER saturation. Patients waiting in the lobby for over 12hours. Nothing you can do once you have met max capacity. Makes you feel bad for the elderly that are truely sick. This is a bad year all around

Our outbreak was in our long term psych ward.

All the deaths I’ve seen from the flu at my hospital so far

I know more people have flu like symptoms that test negative for A&B than those who actually test positive for A&B

We had to swab and prophy all the patients. Had to enforce strict droplet isolation. I think they still go ahead and swab any new patient there regardless of symptoms.
I was out on leave when it happened. I just saw all the work emails about it and was like “glad I’m not there right now”

My grandmother was hospitalized this past weekend. The attending physician in the ER told my mom that the strain that most people are testing positive for this year was not covered in this years flue shot. But he also said there were still plenty of people diagnosed with a strains that were included in this year shot and those cases could have been prevented.
The window-lickers that say, "I got the flu shot and then caught the flu" never cease to humor me.
ETA - Granny was admitted to hospital with heart issues, not flu. One of the questions the ask is the patient had been inoculated or not.

3 family members and one friend, all in another state. I do flu tests and we are hammered daily with samples. Manufacturer is having trouble supplying the country right now. It's the worst I've ever seen it.
