not what we're talking about. that is legitimate communication
we're talking about meaningless, banal, small talk/bitching. like a 10 minute "Story about my day" that could be summarized in 2, or talking about conflicts/drama with friends or co-workers....or making declarative statements that don't require a response and then getting upset when there is none

I don't. I absorb every word, and enjoy her words. She never over does it, and it helps that she has meaningful things to say.

Well, I used to do this way more pre-kids. I wanted to tell him all about my day (or stories worthy of sharing) but I feel pretty certain he absorbed at least 90%. But in return, I let him gripe and complain about whatever he wanted to. I find that I’m pretty self aware so when it was obvious he wasn’t interested, I would just pick up my phone and call my best friend instead. but I will say that he’s terrible at remembering the names of some of my friends who I’m not super close to.
Once we had kids then it just became yelling “what” from other rooms, or asking when the last time the baby ate, napped, or was changed.
