On the Burnett show they were clearly supposed to be from the South (Burnett is from Texas) but for the sitcom they were afraid some people might be offended, so they changed it to the Midwest

I loved watching reruns of Mama’s Family.
Before becoming an ABC affiliate in the 1990’s and launching a full news department, WGNO aired reruns of Mama’s Family at 10 pm in New Orleans.
I think Mama’s Family had higher ratings than their newscast that was consistently in fourth place rarely getting over a full ratings point despite having the ABC affiliation.
If I recall, WVUE ditched ABC for Fox because Fox had a minority stake in a subsidiary that temporarily bought the station and other stations as Fox was trying to get stronger affiliates after acquiring the rights to the NFC package of NFL games.
