I bought the generator in 2016. This was not a new expense for me.

And I maybe waited a total of an hour across those four days.

I already had 5 x 5 gallon gas cans before Ida and my generator holds 8.5 gallons. I didn't lose electricity but my Dad did in New Orleans so I brought him my generator and gas but since it was so hard to find gas in New Orleans I ended up with 10 more 5 gallon gas cans that I brought him so I can go in to a storm with 75 gallons of gas plus a full generator.

Natural gas generators are AWESOME until there’s a gas supply pressure issue. Ask me how I know.

I will have a backup gasoline generator prepped to hard wire in for the next one.

I had 10 gal of gas and 120lbs(18.4 gal) of propane on a duel fuel generator(3500 KW). I lasted 5 days running it 22/7 each day. I'll load up with 20 gal of more gas and another 40lb of propane which should last me 2 more days since I lost power for 7 days. If I lose power for more than that then I'm going somewhere that has power and bringing my deep freezer with me.

I have enough tank space including my boat tank to hold 74 gallons...

I had 62 gallons for IDA... We got an additional 32 gallons, I had about 10 gollans left when our power came back on after 10 days..

Just got this in today. Hopefully not going to be storing much gas for the future.

Dont get a generac. Lots of failures

People think you can run the air cooled ones 24/7 non-stop. They're not designed for that. They burn a tiny bit of oil each day and you need to stay on top of that.

Sounds like the company got a little to big for its britches and started assembling the systems with cheap parts. What the next best natural gas powered whole home generator?

I was out of power for 12 days and ran mine everyday and never had a single issue. Granted, I turned it off every day at 10am and let it rest. Checked the oil and cranked it back up at ~4pm. Ran great. I bought it in 2013 (20kw).

I have a NG generator in Houston and solar + storage in WTX. I'm spending all my money hoarding TP to trade during the ensuing economic collapse.

I just bought a natural gas generac with a bad stator. Hoping to get the stator done before the next storm. Then get a buddy to put in the transfer switch. Then no more gasoline for me.

Unhook the fuel line at the fuel filter or other accessible spot. Turn on key but don’t start the engine. Fuel pump tries to pressure up your fuel rails for startup. Enjoy the flow of gas with no siphoning.

Won’t work, the computer (PCM) starts the fuel pump for only -1-2 seconds to pressurize the fuel system for engine start. If the computer does not receive the signal from the engine that it is running at the end of that time interval it shuts off the fuel pump. To do what you suggest requires finding a way to manually engage the fuel pump relay.

Only problem with Natural Gas is you lose 20% of the generators power when you convert it. So you have to make sure you get a pretty large generator.

Two 12-gallon portable scepter marine tanks, two 5-gallon cans, 4.5 in the inverter gen, 7 in the older portable gen.

Using the 2200i cut fuel consumption quite a bit so 30 is more than sufficient for a week. I'll get that again BEFORE the lazy wait until the rush begins. Half of what I got before the storm went into my vehicle with some leftover to mow the lawn
