The way laws are set up in Louisiana, we have become a utopia for trial attorneys allowing people to become lawsuit happy. Businesses and insurance companies despise us. I believe we are top 5 in the nation in lawsuits.

That's such a divisive area of law, I don't know how well that translates to politics.

Any specifics to that claim?

I'm a lawyer and I'm staunchly against lawyer advertising.

I haven't read the entire thread so this may have been covered, but I was always told the amount of billboards/advertisements you see or hear for an attorney is inversely proportional to the quality of that attorney.

To be fair, insurance companies really don't care one way or the other. They just adjust their premiums accordingly.

I don't think there would be in morning television without injury attorney ads. I bet they make a ton of money in settlements from insurance companies just to avoid the expense and uncertainty of court.

FACT: National economists rank Louisiana’s tort activity index at No. 7 in the United States, which encompasses a range of metrics such as lawyer concentration, tort suits, and verdicts.19 Among 16 Southern states, Louisiana rises to No. 3 for the number of civil lawsuits filed in state general jurisdiction courts for our population size.

More than 134,000 civil cases were filed in Louisiana in 2012.21 With regard to other states, both Alabama and Kentucky provide a similar geographic distribution and population size and demographic for comparison. In Alabama, just 42,489 civil cases were filed in general jurisdiction courts in 2012.22 Alabama had an estimated 1,081 civil lawsuits filed per 100,000 people while Louisiana courts had 2,717 lawsuits filed per 100,000 people.23 In Kentucky, there were 47,672 civil suits filed in Kentucky in 2013.24 In neighboring Texas, 231,489 cases were filed – just double that of Louisiana, despite a population six times larger (26 million).

Our shitty roads, awful traffic and number of welfare recipients makes BR the perfect place for advertising attorneys.

Just like with any business, when their costs go up to cover Keisha's $350k check for her "pain and suffering," those costs are passed on to the consumer in the form if higher rates.

You think it's just a coincidence that our insurance rates are so much higher than neighboring states?

Those commercials speak to the lowest class of people as a way to escape poverty. Better odds than winning the lottery. Ever wonder why they come on during weekdays between 7am-5pm?

This.

They tell you you can get hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In all reality, any wreck you get in, you can get a lawyer and they will get money for you. Most insurance companies seem quick to settle, and the settlement is based on how much you are insured for.
