Why do people who didn't finish college, for whatever reason, always say they "completed 3 years" or "only have one year left"?

Quite a phenomenon really.

PS - IDC if someone has a degree or not, to each his own. Just curious if the OT has noticed this as well.

I said that for 2 consecutive years when I was at LSU.

ETA: I misunderstood the question at first. My roommate and one of my best friends say that. I believe it's a way for them to not feel so bad for dropping out of college. We all know they dropped out of college. They are doing very well now, though, so props to them.

Or dropped out/failed out after one year but thinks 'only one year left' sounds better.

There seems to be a huge number of people my age who drop out mid way through or junior year to wait tables or bar tend full time. Pretty dumb and short sighted. The money may be better than what other college kids are making but it won't be when those other kids are in the white collar workforce.

One of my High School buddies claims he has one semester left, that semester has been lingering for 20 years.

While I'm not really close friends to know exactly how much school they have left, I totally get what you mean when you see a bunch of FB friends you KNOW are dumb as frick showing "Studied at LSU" in their Profile.

Be like bitch you used the BATHROOM in CEBA one time before an LSU game. You must have studied real hard not to eat the urinal cakes.

"I didn't finish, but I'm just a few hours short. I've been meaning to go back."

I know a few people that take a couple of community college classes online (like 1 a semester) just so that they can say they are in school for something. And they change what they are going to school for every semester. Some people want to fake like they have some sort of direction in life. These are early-mid twenties people I'm talking about though.

I know someone who, in their 30's, took one college class online from a school that I have never heard of. And she tells everyone she went to college but did not finish.

Have a friend who's wife is in her mid to late 30's that is a "career online student". They have kids, she doesn't work, and the house is always a wreck.

She's "always working so hard on her schoolwork" though!
