Not to mention the statue is a historic landmark that gives it certain protections.
Oh, so now they are going to start enforcing laws?

Yeah, let's never mind that Andrew Jackson successfully defended New Orleans from the British with some ~2000 less troops. Idiots
Those soldiers were invading this racist country to free the slaves and Jackson prevented it to preserve slavery! Take it down!

Would be a shame, a damn shame.
Of course it would, but we seem to have passed the point of this making any sense.

It's basically a terrorist situation. The mob says either you (government) take it down if you want to somehow preserve it. OR, we'll blatantly commit a crime and come tear it down because you aren't going to stop us or punish us.
Except the “terrorists” are actually mostly government employees and their family members in masks. The government is protesting itself to give it political cover for what it already wants to do.
Actually, considering how the CIA and FBI fund and masquerade as terrorists, it’s actually exactly like terrorism.
Our corrupt governments are the terrorists, the rioters, the cultural vandals, and the stazi clamping down on our rights in the name of safety. This is all orchestrated with approval from the local governments and funding from national (and trans-national) political figures and organizations.

I love how people naively think their favorite historical figure is safe despite supporting the destruction of others
It is the hilarity of all of this.
They will come for you in the end.
Nothing is safe.

Don’t forget he used bales of fricking COTTON to build walls to defend the city. Basically a complete mockery of the slaves.

Great Britain didn’t abolish slavery in her colonies until 1833, 2 decades after their attempted invasion of New Orleans. So, no, they weren’t going to “free” any slaves.

He was not only a president but the de facto patron saint of the city. Taking that statue down is pretty much opening the flood gates wide open.

Add a statue of Nagin and rename it Chocolate Square. Satisfy everyone.

Andrew Jackson = Hitler. Good to know for history class.

There is a huge amount of tourism based on the history of NO, you remove all the history and you will remove all that tourism money. The net effect will be a loss of service jobs and tax revenue that help support all aspects of the city’s economy. Next step will be mass outcry bc nobody wants to visit NO, and it will be bc the things they were coming to see no longer exist.

Andrew Jackson never rebelled against his government and he’s one of my favorite Presidents because he truly despised the international bankers with all his heart. He fought in duels and he threatened to hang John C Calhoun from the tallest tree in South Carolina if Calhoun tried to break up the Union. I’m sincerely asking the far left to please leave President/General Jackson alone man.
FYI, their problems with Andrew Jackson have nothing to do with breaking up the Union. Rather, it's that nickname "the architect of the Trail of Tears" that gives some people pause, hero of the Battle of New Orleans or not.

You're thinking way further into this than they are. They don't care nor will they factor in anything you just stated. Jackson was a bad white man and that's all they look at.

Remember in 1976 they tried to change the high school mascot

He’s considered Hitler to Native Americans because he ordered the forcible removal of all Native Tribes living East of the Mississippi. This included the “civilized” tribes which had largely been assimilated. The Trail of Tears which resulted was ethnic cleansing on a massive scale.
However, Jackson had many notable accomplishments beyond (destroyed the National Bank, pioneered the Spoils system, founded the Democratic Party, prevented a Civil War with his handling of the Nullification Crisis, paid off the national debt, saved New Orleans from British invasion, etc) that which make him such an important historical figure that the period in time during which he dominated is known as the Jacksonian Era.

How long until Andrew Jackson’s statue is removed from Jackson Square?
