They wont be profitable until autonomous vehicles are everywhere.

They need to get rid of the drivers.

The question is which one can hang on until that time. Maybe both. Maybe neither.

At least Uber is in the digital freight trucking space now. It's hemorrhaging money but eventually it could be a money maker. #Diversification

What’s tangibly different about Foot Locker, Champs, athlete’s foot?

Uber and Lyft use different apps.

There, that's something different.

I think it's a battle of attrition.

Nobody's provided a good reason both will (or should) continue to exist.

I don't think they both will.

The first one that turns a profit will, if I had to guess.

I will never understand how this is possible. I can see not pulling in a billion a year but to not be profitable just makes no sense with the amount of riders they have every day. Could someone break it down?

You know that companies have to spend money to build out?

You aware that sprint was losing money as they built out there network.

And despite adding 1 million customers in a quarter in 11, they lost almost a half a billion.

I’m pretty sure there are many more payday loan companies out there in addition to these two.

Seems like one would eventually go by the wayside, since most drivers these days seem to be "working" for both.

Is there any logical reason for both to exist? Do they act as a sort of "check" on each other for pricing purposes?

If one bows out, which one survives?
A better question is how to do either survive without drastically raising prices.

I'm talking about Uber Freight. I think Uber Rides is profitable, just not the other segments.

They are both trying to last until driverless cars. Then basically be rental companies for driverless cars

The public benefits by this. Even a duoply servers as a check on each other's pricing and service levels.

Lyft spent almost 600 million in the last 2 quarters on R&D.

Sounds like they must be looking to branch out into something a bit different, eh?

delta, American, united, etc.

Differentiate themselves by customizing planes and offering exclusive flights as well as sky clubs and other benefits. It's why I can't fly Delta MSY-EWR direct.

I don't consider my Uber driver covering his Lyft sticker and changing the color of his cabin LED lights to be product customization.
