Then you should vote NO and expect everything in the parish to remain exactly as they are now.

So many posters on this board supported Coach Edwards when he was running against Broome and yet now that he is trying to deliver a first step on his campaign promises, those same posters are refusing to take YES for an answer.

Their ignorance is suffocating.

This.

The initiative at issue makes for strange bedfellows who rarely agree on stuff. If Russian, Josh, Greenrock, and I are all on the same side, it's probably a good idea.

I believe Coach Edwards efforts are going to go for naught.

Every source I see is predicting the proposals will fail primarily because a huge majority of Broome supporters are pissed that Edwards defeated her for mayor. So his plan MUST be defeated.

I honestly don't disagree that it's a good compromise, but I just don't like the idea that they are taking money from a overly funded parish service, and using it for the city of Baton Rouge. When will Central, Baker or Zachary get to take money from parish funded entities and use it for their police departments pension plan, or for their police departments new building? Is BR going to be able to run a fiscally responsible city gov't after they get bailed out? or are they going to be bitching in 2 years and asking those outside of the city for more money again? The solution isn't in St. George, or Central, or Zachary. It's in BR.

This would be a great opportunity to let the new administration/Mayor do what he said, and says, he’ll do without a heavy lift of a new tax.

Talk about strange bedfellows: St. George voters teaming up with Sharon Broome supporters to defeat East Baton Rouge Parish's white mayor's plan to improve parish services.

The problem, for me and many others, is that insane millages for the library, mosquito abatement, and BREC are not being addressed. Im all for a reallocation of funds from these groups, they are sitting on too much of our money. But they arent even using all of their allotted funds. We will now be charged the fully approved millage rates....which means our property taxes go up. And the insane millage rates? Still there.

Still a NO from me.

I voted no on all four. Sid doesn't know what the frick he's doing. It's like we have Broome again. All he seems to care about is the hood.

You seem to conveniently leave out some of this money is for City of BR.

Parish wide collected taxes should only be used for parish wide services. Going into the general fund is not what should be done and piggybacking onto the renewal of the library fund. That’s intentional.

Why not have a separate vote for the library renewal at a reduced rate and one for a separate vote for the balance to be used for specific things instead of the general “we can do whatever we want with it” fund?

Because they know that might fail. Passes easier tied to the library. That’s pathetic leadership. They all support it because they all will get a slice of the stolen funds. Not surprising.

You can expect whatever you want. The facts remain. Those agencies will still be over funded, and my actual tax bill still goes up. That's a NO for rational people.

How can you be so stupid that you think even if THRIVE fails those agencies won't roll forward their millages so that your total taxes will go UP without any improvement in the DA's and Sheriff's funding, which are both parish offices.

You are just not very intelligent.

Which is why your previous three screen names got banned so you had to create your latest screen name just so you can keep proving your ignorance.

You lost on the St. George issue, get over it. Siding with the liberals on this won't win you anything.

Early voted FOR. It’s not what I would’ve wanted, but it’s one of the first things I’ve ever seen multiple different entities agree to push for. Plus, no votes will F over the library which I’m never in favor of. One of the only things that works right around here.

ETA I hope Coach goes ahead with the layoffs whether it passes or not. Bunch of freeloaders working for CP and adding no value.

That’s exactly why they tied it to the library renewal so that most people would think this. I hate THRIVE but if I don’t vote yes then the library doesn’t get money.

But the library supports this THRIVE BS because they were told that if this fails, they will put their tax back on the next ballot. 2 bites at the tax apple.

It is. But that doesn't make it inherently wise. EBRP government is bloated, and THRIVE doesn't fix that. Edwards has talked of reducing headcount, which I'm all for. I understand he inherited mess, and I'm fine with the reallocation of excess funds from these groups. The rest of it is the problem.

It reduces the bloat at the council on aging and the libraries. That’s a start.

(Serious question). What do you think THRIVE is going to do to reduce the bloat at either of those?

They will have less to spend.
