Building new libraries where no one used the old one was a waste of money.
The old library on Goodwood was better than the new one.
Let the library system spend money wisely. In science and technology it use to have college level textbooks in reference section. Now it has baby talk with almost everything about "green" and other crap.
PHUCK those far leftist idiots

Not at all, their technology reference material is non existent. It is only about stuff that has FAILED, the Obama Green New Deal crap. It you think that stuff was worth anything, you are clueless.

It’s mostly that I don’t believe you, but I’m willing to be proven wrong. What kind of books are you looking for? Any particular titles or SKUs?

I’m going to vote yes because I think it’s the only option the parish have but I don’t agree with it.
On one hand, the library gets way too much money. I understand voters approved that however we all know that these tax renewals always happen on obscure election dates with 12% voter turnout. So do the majority of voters really approve of the amount of money the library is getting? Probably not, just too lazy to go vote.
At the same time, I don’t think it’s right to “steal” (for lack of better words) their funds to right BR’s shitty spending habits and lack of planning.
With all the said, I don’t think it passes. It’s too confusing and communications haven’t been clear enough.
Then you have retards like Gravy Chambers saying not to vote for it because some of the money will go to St. George as if they aren’t part of EBR parish

The voters elected to overfund the Library Board. Why can’t the same voters decide to redirect the revenues?
No matter what the situation is, this is necessary. Redirecting tax dollars to more vital things is a no brainer. Wd do not need more taxes.
BREC should be cut too.

Primarily Chemical Engineering type books. They are all gone. EBRPPL had the best I had ever seen outside of a university but that was 20 years ago. They don't even subscribe to pertinent journals any longer.

Building new libraries where no one used the old one was a waste of money.
quote:with the mice, rats, leaky roof, mold, and non-ADA compliant bathrooms? Plus wires everywhere because it was built before there was a plug needed on every wall. I worked at the old main library longer than I worked at the old River center
The old library on Goodwood was better than the new one.
If you thing either building was worth saving then you are extremely delusional or stupid, probably both.

Chemical engineering isn’t within my knowledge base, so I have no idea what I’m looking at, but while I don’t see many hard copies, I see what looks like tons of textbook-looking things listed as digital resources. If you look at the online catalog, would some of those not meet what your describing?

The Main Library on Goodwood Blvd was razed to the ground and rebuilt into a crystal palace a few years ago.
quote:the old main was not a perfectly good library building, my gosh
the Library Board tearing down perfectly good library buildings
We had to throw a bunch of books after Gustav (2008) bc they molded from the leaky roof that was never fixed, so many more were thrown away
Plus the rats and mice

I agree. Like I said these tax renewals usually have like 12% voter turnout and that’s how they pass. Every single time.
But I don’t think it’s right to take what the voters that do show up have approved. People need to pay attention and start voting on these kinds of things. There’s no excuse.

I've looked it is crap. They don't even subscribe to important journals any longer. It's all about green new deal type stuff and none of that worked. I've been to many of those plants to buy equipment as they were demolished.

OH but Ive been to the new library they have denuded it of great reference material and even pertinent technical journals. It's gone green with reference materials for processes which have failed.

Why am I getting the feeling that you have a hyper-specific, niche perspective on the issue of the library

I will admit I’m having some second thoughts about my vote. I just didn’t like the methodology used to take millages approved for these entities and put the funds in the general fund. Reminds me of when the Screen administration took the approved monies from the Libraries and pissed them away.

You sure are pushing their Propaganda really hard.
I supported Mayor Edwards when he was running against Broome partly because he committed to set priorities for some existing parish wide taxes.
The THRIVE plan is far from perfect (it omits BREC's excessive property taxes) but I agree with Dwight Hudson, the C-P councilman whose district is entirely within the St. George city limits and who co-authored the THRIVE Plan, that this is a good compromise and good first step in how we are taxed for parish wide services.
The plan is also endorsed by St. George mayor Dustin Yates as well as the mayors of Central, Baker and Zachary.
And the three agencies who are seeing a slight cut in their dedicated taxes, the Council on Aging, the Library Board and the Mosquito and Rodent Control Board, all support the Plan.
So many posters on this board supported Coach Edwards when he was running against Broome and yet now that he is trying to deliver a first step on his campaign promises, those same posters are refusing to take YES for an answer.
Their ignorance is suffocating.

I do want to move money from the Library and COA to help pay for stormwater and street projects. That is an excellent idea.
I don't want to help pay for BR debts using parish raised funds b/c they don't know how to manage their city finances.
I honestly don't disagree that it's a good compromise, but I just don't like the idea that they are taking money from a overly funded parish service, and using it for the city of Baton Rouge. When will Central, Baker or Zachary get to take money from parish funded entities and use it for their police departments pension plan, or for their police departments new building?
Is BR going to be able to run a fiscally responsible city gov't after they get bailed out? or are they going to be bitching in 2 years and asking those outside of the city for more money again?
The solution isn't in St. George, or Central, or Zachary. It's in BR.
