Man I remember those drills ... we used to watch those films in class.
We were living in Florida during the Cuban Missile crisis and it was tense in school to say the least. My Dad and I dug a bomb shelter in the backyard. Hit water about two feet down and I remember my Dad saying, "frick."
First time I had ever heard that word used. I asked Mom what it meant later and she gave Dad the stank eye.

Fun fact from someone that’s built several schools.
Grade school hallways are designed to be shelters in place. Last one I did had interior CMU walls with a structural deck above the grid ceiling. So in this case, it’s not bullshite.
