I’ve been wondering about this. Anybody here signed up for the military via being recruited? Do they sort of sell you in things that aren’t whole truths or are they very straight forward with you? I’m pretty unfamiliar with the entire process and would enjoy hearing about it from anyway that knows what it’s like to go through with it. TIA

Depends on the recruiter but bottom line is that they are up against a quota.

The word “honest” should never be spoken in the same breath as “military recruiting”.

Never

Completely depends on who the recruiter is and if he’s a piece of shite or not. I will tell you that back in 2006, they were selling some shite but that’s because the war/s were still popping off

Now, they don’t need to lie because there’s not as much going on. They’re actually being super selective. About 2/3rds of the kids going through MEPs right now get disqualified. The days of just “I don’t know what to do so I’ll join the military” are long gone.

Tim Kennedy said a few months back that it’s easier to get into college nowadays than the military and he’s absolutely right.

Generally 1/mo, 2 max in these times. Its viewed as a "Mission". Each month has phase lines where canvassing objectives should be met. This is derived from data analysis, and that tells one what they need to do to reach their objectives.

I wasn't recruited when I signed up. I had been thinking about and decided to join and went and did it. I did have a buddy that was in the Navy and one time he came home on leave and part of his leave he had to work in the recruiting office in Hammond for a week. Went and visited him a few times and saw some of the shite the regular recruiters would tell kids. A few were straight forward, but most should burn in hell for the lies they told them kids.

If you are considering joining the military seek out current and former members of the branch you are interested in. You can go to a recruiter for basic info but take what they say with a grain of salt.

If anyone is ever interested, or a parent of a child who may be, you can contact me via twitter. I'm not in anymore and can help. A lot of people know me on tRant as a troll, but I know my stuff, and wasn't a shisty recruiter. There are lots of shistyness that goes on, some of the stories....

FWIW, when I enlisted in high school into the Marines, when I went to ship I had a brand new recruiter because mine joined the Army lol. Trust me when I am one to feel fricked and then was a recruiter.

Do you know how to tell when a recruiter is lying? His mouth is moving.

My dad was a career AF man. (side note: it was a great life growing up as a brat). At one point during the second half of his career he was recruited to be a recruiter. Started school for it. He didn’t last long until he requested and was granted a return to his previous assignment. His reasoning: he refused to lie to or mislead potential recruits. That was not compatible with being a successful recruiter. This was back in the late 70s/early 80s so tifwiw.
