If your child can go to LSU for free or for a very minimal cost, I would definitely consider LSU. This November they're breaking ground for the new Engineering Complex which should be complete by the time your child enrolls.
LSU graduates also earn more than the national average.
Also, NUMEROUS great companies recruit LSU graduates & students. The new Olinde Career Center that is opening this fall is only improving too. They not only help you with your resume but will conduct mock interviews with you, hosts mutiple career fairs, & will help you find jobs/internships through "Careers to Geaux"

Hey Drew Orleans, did you change your mind about the book thing? Or is ULL-Church Point just as hard as Harvard because they use the same book?

How many "UL-L-Breaux Bridge engineering program is better" posts have there been?
I don't think anyone has said that, but I did say that it shouldn't be implied that ULL engineering is easier than LSU. I would think the two are on par with each other, but I can only speak for mechanical.

I would be hesitant to study PETE at LSU these days.. they let the department get way too saturated and may have lost their accreditation. Last I checked they weren't even on the list of best PETE schools (but list is questionable at the very best anyway)

Pardon Moi, I wasn't saying one is better that the other, etc, etc. All I was asking was if there had been any posts similar to that?

How many PETE programs are there in the us?

Apparently you haven't been keeping up either. Again, it's ok.

15-25 depending on how you look at it. Some are full-on like LSU, A&M, UT, CO school of mines. Some are graduate only (Stanford). Some are lumped in as a specialty area of the chemical engineering dept and only offer a few classes (USC). And nowadays there are some smaller departments springing up in smaller state colleges in Texas and other places. They have one in West Texas and I think they are starting one at lsu-shreveport.

just read that 76% of students at Columbia scored 32 or higher on the ACT. I'd guess that the average student at Columbia would be in the top 5% at LSU.
I scored a 32 on the ACT and was no where near top 5% at LSU

LSU has the 5th fastest growing engineering college in the nation (41% increase). Ranked behind UCLA, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, & Purdue.
With the past budget cuts, I'm sure LSU Engineering did all they could - they had an increasing enrollment but had a difficult time hiring professors due to budget cuts. The PETE department isn't going to get stripped of their accreditation. Our execs used it as a way to advocate for more higher education money at a Louisiana Senate Finance Committee meeting the week after.
The WISE Fund was then introduced

Not sure why they didn't make the list. Student faculty ratio maybe?
Posted on 8/21/14 at 11:24 am to TheIndulger
Yeah, there were 82 students for every faculty member in the PETE dept which was causing concern.

I graduated in ME from LSU. I've worked with people from Standford, Georgia Tech, UT, Texax A&M. We all learned the same thing. We all used the same text books. The difference between a top rated school and run of the mill is the facilities (lab equipment, etc.) and the acceptance criteria. Grades might be a little tougher, because the curve will be set higher, but I don't think it would be too much as there wasn't much curve given in your engineering classes. If 75% of the class was failing, that's just how it was. Also pre-requisite courses are going to be easier at LSU. Math and Physics curve like a mofo and the tests are dumbed down (plus the teaching is TERRIBLE). Once you get to your core curriculum, that's done and everything is tough. The fact that you were culled out of the pack in the acceptance to a good school before you even started there is what is appealing to employers.
I would say that I probably make above average for an engineer with an LSU degree. But I regret that I didn't work harder to get into a more prestigious school. It's a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and would love to have it under my belt to show people that I'm better than them

I wish I could go back to 2008 and kick my own arse for putting college on the back burner.

Traveling around the country for job training with a fortune 100 company
I'm a project manager/design engineer. Not the highest paying offer I got but by far the best way to get fast experience. It's baptism by fire, but I knew that going into it.
