Genesis doesn't work. It used proto matter. Very unstable and caused rapid evolution.

It would require being able to amplify its existing gravity and generating an atmosphere. Thats just the beginning and theres no way in hell we'll be able to do before our species is all but extinct.

Cool to think about though.
Our species will probably die out on this planet. And unless some extraterrestrial life form has seeded planets with humans it'll be up for up.

Thanks to all those with serious answers. Seems like the consensus is the magnetosphere thing is the major first necessity.

I'm pretty sure that Venus would actually be easier. Floating cities would be the only way though. At a certain height, Venus is the most earth-like. The pressure and temperature on the surface would kill you instantly but floating around is supposedly easier on Venus than it is on Earth in the hypothetical floating city. Temperature is the same at around 3O miles up in the atmosphere. You would use breathable air to inflate the balloon. If it popped, you would have a fair amount of time to repair it unlike on earth.

Now I could be wrong about all of this and may have been a different planet.

I'd have to look up the temperature 30 miles above the surface. But Earth-like air would float like a helium balloon in the Venusian atmosphere. Our air is much, much lighter. And it wouldn't leak over time. A helium balloon leaks because helium atoms are smaller than the microscopic holes in the balloon.

Another terraforming possibility would be to engineer bacteria that can live on the surface and consume CO2. With no other life on the planet, they would be able to reproduce unchecked. With a 20-minute reproductive cycle, they can evolve quickly as the CO2 level drops (which also reduces the atmospheric pressure and temperature).

Also goes on to say coukd make days shorter by being untethered and floating with the 210 mph winds at 30 miles up.

It would be easier to create robots that can handle uploads of a human's mind and use them to explore space than to alter plants to be habitable for humans...

There are certain moons that might be easier than Venus or Mars.
