re: How far is too far for a commute?

I would consider anything regularly over 30 minutes to be a long commute, and anything that's regularly over an hour to be a deal-breaker.
Obviously sometimes traffic fricks it all up, but I can get to work in about 15 minutes, and it takes 20-25 to get home.

Get a fuel efficient comfortable car and you'll be fine.

Anything longer than 30-40 minutes is too long imo.

Hour of traffic sucks way worse than an hour doing 70
I've done both
I've done both

I work at several locations around Houston.
My short commute is 25 minutes. That's all back roads so time of day usually doesn't matter.
My long commute is 50 minutes with minimal traffic, and has been as long as 2 hours with extremely bad traffic. I have to time that drive though. Leaving after 6:30, or not getting on the road to go home by 3:30 pretty much guarantees an hour and twenty minute drive.
I transferred to this job from a 5-10 minute commute. I honestly don't really notice it that much. I'm used to it now. The really bad days are horrible, but that's like once a quarter that I get stuck in something miserable.

there are plenty of salesman that drive 200 miles a day, everyday visiting and calling on customers. Driving 1 hour to your office where you sit at a desk for 6-8 hours then drive another hour to get home is not that big of a deal

I once met a guy who spent several days a week commuting from BR to Jxn MS
2 & 1/2 hours each way
2 & 1/2 hours each way

Personal opinion though. To some an hour commute each way would be very difficult for them for various reasons(family obligations, etc).
I physically cannot drive more than 30 minutes home from work cause I've just worked 12 hours overnight. I'm pretty sleepy leaving work in the AM (as are many that work night shift type jobs)and would fall asleep while driving if I had a longer commute.

I have a coworker that commutes from Natchez, MS to BR every day.

I'd say 20 minutes door to door would be max. I'm within a mile of my office now. Couldn't imagine people that fight the 30+ minute rat race of traffic everyday and why they choose to.

I do not want to leave where I am living, and this opportunity is quite a ways away.
I did this. My commute is 1hr30min there, 2hr home. I considered that too long at first, but then my schedule adapted. I will say, after almost 3 years of doing it, it's starting to take a toll on me. So if you have a similar commute, I'd look to moving where the job is eventually.

It takes me about 25 minutes to get to work downtown from Central. Not too bad.

I drive an hour and 10 mins each way with no traffic. I live in SW Miss and work in BR. I love where we live so it's worth it to me.

Did the same thing for years.

I commute 150 miles each day. No complaints.

Does the guy happen to be an engineer who works on television transmitters? Company starts with a W?
