When you rely on politicians to unite people, there's a chance you're digging yourself a tremendous hole. Individuals still have to decide to want to do the right thing and unite.

I went to high school with Kendrick Lamar and YG. Cube wasn't around Compton very much when I was growing up. Even if he was I grew up in a blood neighborhood. Cube was a crab.

Serious now- I'm 44 and you're right, that said in my small town(s) experience this is the most uncomfortable I can remember ever personally feeling. I'm not scared but I'm closer than I ever have been.

It's just because it's everywhere now, both the stuff that's legit and the stuff that's misreported or blown out of proportion. I'd say on a day to day basis race relations are much better.

I guess I just don't see him being a strong enough president to make shite like that happen.

He doesn´t have to be so. Simply fan the flames with nebulous remarks. The rest ´rolls´.

I'm sure you're right but I've just never in my life experienced any troubles with other races. The most I guess would be thinking someone was being rude on the rare occasion. But other than that nada, just hope that stays the same.

The funny thing is I was just thinking about this today.

There is a black dude I buy hot dogs from, he runs a stand near a parking lot not far from me, so I will go get two dogs two knishes (a New York delicious thing) and a large soda for seven bucks. We always smile and are nice.

And his cutomers are about equal black and white and "other". And never a nast word is said.

And when I go in to Manhattan, I feel no strife, I see no strife (I also don't go looking for it, I am sure I could find it or cause it if I wanted to).

I took my wife and kids to a chain restaurant on the Fourth because they had a Kids East Free deal (great deal if you have two kids!). Black server couldn't nicer, wearing "Proud to be an American" stuff. In turn my tip was 20%.

I see the strife on TV. I read about it here. I don't see it in day to day interactions.

If you're ever really bored, you should read about the Rampart scandal. The LAPD was the largest gang in the city back in the 90's.

Haven't felt or experienced strained "race relations" ever. Went to a largely black highschool, lived in a 'black neighborhood', and hang out/work with a few black people on a regular basis.

Relations between middle aged men and black people of all ages has certainly gotten fricked up though.

Leave us millenials out of it. We like each other just fine.

fricking this. Then you realize that this board is mostly middle aged southern rednecks and swamp trash.. largely uneducated.. and then the pieces start to assemble.

I'm 48 years old and was born in 1968.

I've never seen race relations this bad in my lifetime.

Obama has been the worst thing to happen to race relations in my lifetime, complete opposite to what I hoped for when he was elected.
Goddamn shame.

Yep. His election brought out the birthers, energized the right wing socialist tea parties hell bent on ending any entitlement for the poor, while advocating the expansion corporate welfare to record levels (and then calling these subsidies part of the free market). And then there is the general disrespect of him as president. He energized the loons.
