I don't think a lot of people who are for gun control really re naive like a lot of people think.
Oh yes they are. They are incredibly so. They are ignorant on all phases concerning guns. Technology aspects, legal aspects, usage, culture, etc. Gun-control folks worship their own ignorance when it comes to firearms.

I can't wrap my mind around how somebody would want to give up the legal right to shoot back.
They don't. They don't want to be shot by a baby walking who grabbed a gun out of a purse in a supermarket and starts shooting it off. And I'm not exaggerating. That's an example someone used.

Just throwing this out there. I don't think a lot of people who are for gun control really re naive like a lot of people think. They just really don't trust the people around them to behave in a responsible way and I don't really blame them. I remember some of the idiots in college who'd go off shooting behind their houses or shooting up into the air. Or playing around with guns when drunk.
Meh. Like the OP said, this girl was saying that gun control could have prevented this shooting in California. If she thinks gun control will stop criminals and others who wish to do harm from obtaining guns then they are extremely naive
Now will gun control help prevent the the stupid drunk college kids from doing stupid shite? Even then it probably won't unless you just make all guns illegal to own or buy

What are the odds of being shot by a baby who grabbed a gun out of a purse vs dying in a crash on the interstate?

I think they have no idea!! I think I'm going to go out and buy another one!

Look up how Australia did it.
There is no solution of any kind that will work overnight.
In both England and Australia, violent crime and murder either went up or stayed the same. Does it matter is the murder was done with a gun?
Gun Facts
With all the constitutional protections, a government like ours can still become tyrannical.
The armed citizen, can ban together and mount a resistence to a repressive government. This was and still is the best argument for the right to bear arms.
You will always have crazies, criminals and radicals in every society. You cant legislate that human condition out of existence. Without guns, that aspect of society will just find another tool to facilitate their behavior.
It might seem simple to stop the mentally ill from having guns. Who gets to define mental illness? The government? They already are classifying White Southern Christians as potential threats to the government. Will they mandate that wanting a gun is a mental illness? That believing in a religion is a mental illness? I mean they can set the parameters. It can become a slippery slope.

You keep referring to how successful Austrailia has been with gun control and I guess they have but their homocide rate hasn't dropped a significant amount.
Here is an article from 2012 that says their overall gun death (homicide and suicide) rate did indeed decrease.
Washington Post
It also talks about statistics, if you are into that sort of thing.

to kill themselves, they will find a way.

My basic position is that the right to protect yourself is the single most basic and primal right there is. In some contexts and situations a gun is necessary for this right to be exercised. You can't take that away from people.

The Feds don't enforce the current laws because of lack of manpower and resources so how would they have time to enforce new laws?

That map is showing the wrong information. If it wanted to make a point it would try to show a relationship between all violent crime and gun laws imo. Even then correlation is not causation. You need more information than just a heat map.

your cousin is an idiot.

I don't.
Honestly, this idea that everyone's "opinion" is worth something is stupid.
Some people are foolish and they'll continue to fail at life while blaming others for their problems.
