Sams club is not giving 50% off to anybody, not health care workers.

The majority of the hero pumping I see is coming from Karen and non RN/MD/NP etc. I see a lot of it coming from other small businesses and industries that "support" ie need health professionals money to survive. The local scrub shop is really into the superhero memes

The nurses and doctors I know personally think the hero pumping is stupid

The hospital systems are failing right now. Medical professionals are getting furloughed, hours cut, pay cuts, forced to take PTO, renegotiating contracts with contract providers. Seems hospital administration is immune to all these effects. Locally this is happening at Oschner, I am not sure about other systems. The lack of "elective" surgery is killing them right now.

I can't say I have heard anyone complain about the free food and other non hospital provided perks, but I don't see how you could resent a nurse because they got some free grub???

The only complaint I see repeatedly from nurses working in COVID units is the lack of PPE. I can't say I wouldn't complain if I was working ANY job that required PPE and it wasn't provided.

But I’m not surprised. Men tend to go to work and do their job and then go home.

Women tend to cry for attention constantly and break their arms patting themselves on the back.

I dunno. I don't think the people on here yesterday puffing for walking around the block or walking into Lowes were women.

It’s amazing how we continue to celebrate people for doing their JOB. And currently they are making insane extra money to do so.

Want to celebrate someone? Celebrate the stock worker that’s choosing to go to work every day and keep shelves stocked instead of sitting on their arse collecting unemployment. Or the utility or service workers that are going in every day Making ensure your lights stay on and your internet keeps working while half their coworkers are sitting at home “working remotely” and won’t answer phones to provide support when they need it.

I don't know if anyone else believes you're an anesthesiologist, but I definitely do.

Bunch of people who want glorification and sympathy for a profession they chose to do. They were already doing this before the pandemic, now it’s at an all time high.

retail stores like Sam’s (this morning they are allowing all healthcare heroes to come in between 8-10 even if you’re not a Sam’s member for 50% off everything).

They doing this again for the heroes that had to work today? Asking for friend. Not all are getting hazard pay and while they do get food brought in, wife said it’s too big of a pita to take all her PPE off to eat. Might be getting better now that the PPE issues are being alleviated.

Well our society treats professional athletes, musicians, and actors like heroes. They get payed huge amounts of money. They're given celebrity status. People sport their gear. Fans probably pick up their tabs just to say they did on social media. They get pounded for autographs and selfies. And all to exercise a god given talent that they love doing.

Healthcare workers are rarely looked at as heroes by the general public, with the exception of a small handful of doctors. Nurses make decent money but usually work 12 shifts to get it. Many of the healthcare workers aren't doctors or nurses. Many of them work in housekeeping and other jobs but still come in contact with some really nasty stuff, and make very little money. All of them could have claimed they were feeling symptoms and bail on their jobs but they don't. And by hanging in there they are putting their children at risk.

Yeah, I'm good with temporary "hero" status and a few discounts from Sam's.
