While we're on the subject, Yankees saying "N'Awlins" is pretty ridiculous. The entire "N'Awlins" thing is blown out of proportion.

I once met a gent who pronounced the name of the city with a loud and long "Yodel" during the "oooooo" part when saying "Baton Rouge".

He was annoying. I'm glad he moved away from me.

I never heard it before the movie either

I did find it in a 1973 book about the city, which is probably where the scriptwriters got it

For some reason the most popular such nickname pre-Big Easy, "The City That Care Forgot", seems to have died out.
