I pronounce it correctly:
Battin Rudge
Battin Rudge

While we're on the subject, Yankees saying "N'Awlins" is pretty ridiculous. The entire "N'Awlins" thing is blown out of proportion.

wrong.
New Or-lens, Or-leens Parish.
NOLA for written shorthand, but not spoken.
N'awlins should only ever have been said by Frank Davis, may he RIP.

I once met a gent who pronounced the name of the city with a loud and long "Yodel" during the "oooooo" part when saying "Baton Rouge".
He was annoying. I'm glad he moved away from me.

What about the nuh-wall-ee-uns crowd? It’s like a local slang dialect or some weird shite.

Am I hick for saying Norlins?

The Big Easy
I did find it in a 1973 book about the city, which is probably where the scriptwriters got it
For some reason the most popular such nickname pre-Big Easy, "The City That Care Forgot", seems to have died out.

I just give them a weird look like the people that say Tar-jay for Target and believe that the store is French.
