How do you pay your gym membership?

Most gyms want either a credit card on file or a debit card to auto pay your membership fee. In the past, I’ve had them continue to charge me after I cancelled my membership.

I’m looking to start going back to the gym and am thinking about some sort of pre-paid card that I can cancel or close out when I cancel the membership. Does anyone have any advice on getting a credit card with a low balance under $500.00 where the cc company won’t continue to increase the credit limit. I’m trying to prevent the fitness centers from continuing to charge me for a membership that is no longer active.

Last time I was a member of a gym I cancelled my membership and they continued to charge my card. I called the cc company and told them to block charges from them. Turns out the fitness center had multiple cc merchant accounts so they ran it through their other merchant accounts to charge my card. It took forever to get this straightened out.

Never give them a card you are not willing to cancel. The prepaid visa seems a solid idea.

People think I am crazy when I say that I don’t mind my credit card being lost or stolen every now and then simply because it forces me to reevaluate all of my subscriptions that are on autopay.

I get a free membership through my job, so I guess I pay it in Excel Spreadsheets.

You know they have programs/apps that do that for you now, right? I'm blanking on the name of the one I've heard advertised on some podcasts lately.

Moved and gym wanted me to mail to corporate for my cancellation. Frick all the corporate gyms. Never give them access to your account. Zero reason they NEED this.

Built out the home gym which is way more efficient.

Open a separate checking account at your bank. (You can do online or just email your banker)
Get a debit card with said account.
Do an automatic transfer on payday into checking account for amount of membership.
Keep it going as long as you want.
Close the card/account at any time.

$50 am month. I used to pay $20 at Planet Fitness and was pretty happy with that but I switched to a new gym because it has a pool.

Planet Fitness is easy to cancel. Plus it’s $10 a month so won’t really matter if they over-charge me a couple months

I hated capital for a long time but they have some nice features. Whenever I need to ensure I don't get charged again for something I just make a virtual card in the app and use that.

Just correctly cancel your membership or pay for 6 months to a year in advance.
