I get at least one a day (4 alone last Monday). I charge a $35 cancelation fee but it's only enforceable if they schedule a follow up. I have a waiting list of clients wanting to see me that could have taken the spot of those who cancel. I am really hesitant to double book like doctors do but I may not have a choice. For new clients, if they miss the initial session, I will not see them again and refer them to others on staff.

You'll get a better answer if you tell us what you do.

Sounds like you get great word of mouth advertising for your run and tug services

Mental Health. The company I work for forces me to accept Medicaid and they are always the ones who no show. It's very rare to get a BCBS cancellation. Now I know why most clinics do walk in and not appointments. I can't bill Medicaid for no shows.

I can't tell you how many "emergencies" people experience daily that force them to cancel despite confirming the day before. One tried to get out of paying the cancelation fee. I said if you can provide documentation that it was a real emergency I will waive it. Never heard from them again.

And they probably don't care if you charge them for the full cost of the missed appt as they don't mind going to collections.

shite comes up even for the best of people. Best to try the old adage "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" rather than risk driving your best clients away.

My wife has to deal with this. Basically after years of building relationships with clients she puts repeats first. New clients get booked on low priority days and might have to wait longer. Is what it is but one on one client relationships where there is no fee for missed appointments make need for processes.
