All new patients to my office are asked for a $75 deposit to secure their appt (this is applied to any treatment going forward or refunded if their insurance pays 100%). If they do not have a credit card, they are offered an opportunity to secure the appt with a personal check they can mail in or drop off.

If they decline paying the deposit, they can seek treatment elsewhere.

If they miss appt, they surrender the $75 (this is a very rare occurance).

I used to have a big problem with new patient no shows, now it is not a problem.

Just do like every other doctor does and schedule 4 appointments at a time, all day long.
Make the patient have to sit around and wait all damn day on their time.

If they don't call me, then they get the bottom of the barrel. I usually don't have that problem.

Never has happened in 6 years. I even work sick.

I don't want to penalize those who follow the rules. Besides, I hate having that happen to me when I go to the doctor myself.

I'd be fine with this as long as when I'm still in the waiting room 30 minutes after my appointment time I get a check for $150 before I leave

I looked up the co-pay rates for those on Medicaid. Under 18 is free. Over that is like $5-10.

Since you are forced to accept Medicaid, there is the problem. No, not Medicaid, the people that choose to use it.

You see, to users of Medicaid, only their time is valuable. Your time is not valuable. You are to be at their beck & call. Their "emergency" was an emergency...in their ignorant view of reality. But their views often differ from the norms of society, but as producers, we're forced to adjust to their ways of incompetence. When we choose to call them out on their lazy behavior we become labeled, and dare I say it, accused of "disrespecting" them?

Nobody likes treating medicaid pts. They are in the worst health, non-compliant, reimbursement is atrocious, and they're always the first to sue. It's awful.

If my clients would "no show" then I would have no one to support and I would still get paid. This would not happen in my field

My doctor treats my OCD. The rule is that if cancellation becomes a habit and you don't show up as scheduled, then good luck getting refills on your meds. Paxil withdrawal can be dangerous and painful.

Missed two appointments in 17 years. Still got charged double on my next appointment. These doctors have to keep the lights on at their offices. Charging almost a Benjamin for a 12 minute visit.
