The church never did anything for me either, but God definitely has.

Usually people who carry this attitude have it abruptly changed by some personal event.

Youre probably on the brink of death every time you slip into REM sleep but then that clot in your brain seethes open and you awake with thoughts of death.

Or not.
Sleep tight.

Such as what? Was there a checklist of things the church should have done for you?

No I mean that it never provided me the comfort that it did and does for a lot of people I know. I don't mean to sound bitter or anything.

I'm opposite. Death does not scare me. Rather the idea of eternal life scares the shite out of me. Think about that...if God is real and you are granted eternal life.

That scares me. No end to anything. Just a continuance forever and ever. I'd rather cease to exist at some point. Or at least the reincarnation thing where I would come back in another form later on but have no prior recollection of former life.

I'm not afraid of death, I would just hate to leave my family and friends. Each one of us plays a role in someone's life, sometimes we don't know it but we do. Best thing to do is remind the people you love how much they're worth to you. I do lot's of family/friend trips. Im still friends with guys from grade school through college. Anyway, it gets tougher as you get older and the people around you start passing.

Life is suffering. Do not be too attached to your anxiety, fear and sadness about the temporary nature of life. Attachment to negativity and arrogance and inhumility and selfishness are the hallmarks of a life poorly lived. Seek any truth you can about your life and about life in general and try to be of service to other people .
