Start early, get professional training, win tournaments. I'm sorry, but if you are just learning chess as an adult, chances are pretty slim that you will ever become a GM.

Man that game was a slaughter.

I got really into it when I was younger. Won a few tournaments, got around a 1500 rating, then stopped not long after I turned 14 because sports and girls were much more appealing then trying to beat Asians at a game.

I still play for fun, but honestly don't think it would be worth the time and effort to become a master at any level.

We're talking about Grand Masters, not Grand Wizards.

Hours and hours upon years and years of study. Being a grandmaster is an immense accomplishment. If you are serious you need to start reading books and studying grandmaster's and classical games. ICC has an incredible library of old games. I tried using it once, but I didn't really like the interface. And it costs money. Chess.com is free.

Just to be clear, you would need to study hours everyday for years even to have a chance, and it still isn't a guarantee that you have what it takes.

No offense, but you seem too stupid to properly set up a chess board, much less become a Grandmaster.

(Ok, actually I did mean some offense there.)

Go to jail. You'll be a grandmaster in no time.

I was playing around to see if I could get all the opponents pieces.

You cannot become a grandmaster.

You are clearly not a prodigy, and I doubt you have the time required to study.

Just play and have fun. Chess is truly my passion, and has been for over 20 years now. The sites these days do a really good job of ranking and grouping like skills. Just play people as good or better than you, over and over again. Use the analyze functions to replay moves or plot out your upcoming moves.

Read books and understand about the opening first. A strong middle and end game is worthless if you always start yourself off in a bad position.

Understand the value of time/tempo. Don't get too caught up in material value.

These are the keys to start IMO.

Also, chesstime on android is an amazing app. I have 30 games going 24/7 . I love it.

PS -- who are the real players here? Hit me up for some lessons......
