I have heard the opposite said from many sources. Siegbert Tarrasch taught that it is easier to start learning with a few pieces than it is to learn many pieces. His book, The Game of Chess, taught the game in opposite order from endgame to middle to opening. It's an interesting concept.
Most lower level games are lost because of tactics, not because of opening theory. Sure, you don't want to be doing outright stupid things and developing bad habits in the opening, but I don't think it's as important. Many opening ideas are probably lost on beginners anyway.
But it's not like I'm a particularly strong player anyway. Definitely stronger than the OP though after looking at that game on the first page.

wiki of Capablanca. his book on chess fundamentals is highly regarded. I started reading with his material. I was 11.
Look at the wiki I clipped in from Capablanca. Bobby Fischer and Karpov studied his games. DO IT. and you can get Fischer's games.
Here's a tip. put all the pieces in a bag except the kings. reach in with your eyes closed. pull out 6 or 10. play both sides.

I only play daily chess games for the most part on chess.com. My rating is only about 1450 with that time control. My other time controls are much worse, but I haven't played much with those or at all for years with some.
