As strange as it may sound, over the last few decades, I can see our country slipping from capitalism pretty steadily towards socialism...and the end game of that path is communism.
Also, fwiw, I cans see our society becoming more attracted to authoritarian/dictator-type elected officials...the past two presidents that we have elected both display these characteristics pretty strongly, IMO.

I see this too. People seem to have a natural proclivity, going back thousands of years, to rely on a single leader to dictate. Our unique system of bicameral legistature and separation of powers in a republic, while genius on paper, is really too sophisticated for most people; because stupid people tend to have more kids than smart people do, in recent generations.

Except through Capitalism, you have the mobility to get out of the “suffering masses” and make something more of yourself. You don’t have that in Communism. Equality of outcome is deadly for a society.
I would also like to add that, even the suffering masses in capitalist countries live better than virtually anybody else ever have in the history of the world.

If the economic policy were a vehicle, capitalism would be the best engine and internal parts. Social policies (in moderation) would be the best looking exterior.
You are correct in that the best nations in the world are capitalist. But all of them have some form of welfare and/or social programs as well. Because the reality is that nobody wants the purest form of capitalism (anarcho-capitalism). Because relying solely on market forces usually removes basic human rights in some form.

Because they’re ignorant. They think that “real communism hasn’t been tried yet”, but when you go down the principles of communism with them one by one, they’ll realize that they were brainwashed by someone else if they are sane.
One of my best friends gave me this argument, and he was my roommate in China of all things (an American). Once I went down the communist principles, he had to admit it had been done properly before, and it was everywhere it took hold.
Just because you’re for universal basic income doesn’t mean communism is the answer. Talk with people on specifics on why it is evil. No one has ever beaten me on a conversation about communism, and I’ve converted a few on why it is evil.
One of my best friends gave me this argument, and he was my roommate in China of all things (an American). Once I went down the communist principles, he had to admit it had been done properly before, and it was everywhere it took hold.

Well it’s taken hold. No one says “well socialism has never worked” because it does in certain countries in Europe at least for the time being. They can only afford that thanks to the American economy and our military industrial complex. So yeah, socialism can work in a specific circumstance for a time.
But then they try to take it a step further with communism saying that that has never been demonstrated properly. It has. Quote anything Lenin said, and you can find where that vision had been properly executed to the deaths of tens of millions. Communism is immoral and you can’t beat around it with naive pepole who think it isn’t. Be very direct that it’s immoral.

I dont need convincing. I have read Marx's works and I believe that though the original intentions may have been good, human nature will always make communism a failed system.
However, I am also trying to get people to see that anarcho-capitalism isn't really that much better either. You will inevitably have a super-wealthy class and the very large class in poverty. The same results of communism albeit following differing market tactics.

The people my age don’t know poverty. Sure, they know our poverty of welfare, but they don’t know “The Great Leap Forward” where 55 million people starved to death. China can’t afford this again since China knows what the outside world is like now.

Absolutely true...even today, they think Chairman Mao was a great leader and hold his name with absolute reverence.
