No flex, just reality. I would love to take 3 months off work and play with my kids, but I work a job that requires me to be available.

There is no option for taking time off and being left alone for any real amount of time. I’m tight with my kids, take them all over on trips, coach their teams, build shite with them. But they know when the phone rings, the old man has to answer it.

"Men are worthless to babies except for occasional holding and playing" is an unreal quote, and I hope it's a troll post for his sake. My wife would've stabbed me in my sleep if I said that

Like I said earlier, these threads always expose the guys who don't truly take care of their wives and kids. There's probably a reason why their wives and MILs would rather them go back to work than hang around the house and burden them. They've already got 1 baby to take care of

I know a lot of physicians like this. They took off the day of their child’s birth and went back the next day.

Now the ones that work for state hospitals or VA would get paternity leave.

When I was a kid that’s what most of my friends dads did anyway. The mother’s mother would come help and the dad would go back to work.

You wrote it like a flex. Don't back away now.

I get it, especially when you are in the hospital, there isn't much for the Dad to do most of the day, but bragging about not taking any time off and taking conference calls while at the hospital is just weird.

i know a cancer researcher who went back a week or two after her c-section but she is curing cancer and making probably close to a mil a year.

i venture to guess the baws flexing about going to work the day the kid was born isn't curing cancer for a living

My ego is small enough that I can admit when I am worthless in a situation.

I once had a guy come at me about this. He said I should wake up at 3am when it is night feeding time, change the baby for my wife before she breast feeds. I asked my wife if she would like that, and she asked me why I would ruin my sleep and make me tired for work when she already had to be awake and had no work obligations.

I had to agree.

I get it, you have a moral superiority complex and cannot fathom others don’t have your sensitivity level in childbirth.

A few generations ago, men weren’t even in the delivery rooms.

Cool, generations ago we didn't talk and lived in caves. Why are you such a beta pussy talking and working? If that sounds stupid, it should

It was the right call to give my wife and her mom that time alone. It’s not like I never went back. But after a tough childbirth, letting my mother in law be with her was definitely better for everyone.

I'm not sure how you can come to conclusion that your MIL is a better person to be there for your wife and new child, but you do you.

Yeah, that was thousands of years ago when everyone looked like Michelle Obama, not 1955.

But why stop at 1955?

Because women are better caregivers and mothers and daughters have relatability to one another that I do not. We spent 18 hours straight in the room alone. I was good by then.

How about providing for your family and not milking your employer? You can bond from 5pm-8AM and on weekends.

My employer gave me 6 months off at 100% pay. They milked themselves, I guess?

Second child was born during my busiest week of work. Took one day off.

That was 17 years ago, and my wife is still pissed about it.

She's probably still right.
