re: How did you do on the ACT?

This is one of my only regrets in life, that I didn't take it twice. I made a 28 the first and only time. I thought math would be my strongest subject, but without having studied or read up on the ACT at all, all the math was stuff I hadn't taken in 2 years so I didn't remember any of it.
I have always wished I would have taken it again. Could easily see myself making a 31-32 with a little prep, which would have gotten me way more scholarship money. Having said that, I probably would have ended up right where I am now anyway

7th grade I scored a 30.. I was pissed. Took it again my junior year and scored a 34. I could have scored a 36, but I didn't want to take it again.
Bull shite.
Didn't read the whole thread. Just wanted to make sure someone called you out. You cannot even form coherent sentences and spell simple words, but you scored a 30 at age 12. Shut the frick up.

I think everyone knew he was full of shite, so we just ignored it.

I don't math very well, outside of basic college algebra
I took the GMAT pretty seriously. Scored 740, 98th percentile, and only applied to Harvard immediately out of school. I didn't get accepted.

When I saw the trig questions while taking the GMAT, I was like "frick my life"

28 soph or jr year, can't remember which. Only took it once.
Better question, did anyone here actually study/do a prep course for it?

I'm sure plenty of the younger crowd did. I didn't even know those existed, but I also went to a rural high school over 10 years ago. I feel like I could have increased my score by a decent percentage if I took prep courses and adderall

95% of the ones I went to school with couldn't design themselves a way out of a wet paper bag, but they can certainly solve equations. To me, that means they are stupid.
Damn near every one of them passed the FE though
The FE should be a very very easy exam for someone graduating in engineering.
It is a test that judges your ability to understand what the question is asking and being able to find that formula in the equations book.
But having an engineering degree certainly doesn't mean someone is smart. I've known quite a few dumb engineers who just worked hard in college.

One test, 30. Never looked back.

I just took it once while in 11th grade and scored a 32.

Took it once. Got a 33. That was all I needed to get in to all my chosen schools.
Well, I took it in 7th grade as part of the TIP program, but that doesn't really count.

31 in 12th grade.
My trig teacher (proctor) mocked my result.
My, I struggled with trig.
I think 31 was 3rd or 4th in my homeroom.
Didn't matter at all.

First off, I would like to say that it is one of the most ridiculous tests of one's intellect, as the majority of the information on the test is useless in most professions
No standardized test is "designed" to be an indicator of intellect. They're simply a way to compare people who wouldn't be otherwise. How do you compare someone with a 4.0 at BFE High in South Louisiana vs someone with a 3.5 at an elite boarding school in New England. You can't just assume the boarding school kid is "smarter" because it's a better school, just like you can't assume the other kid is "smarter" because he had a better GPA.
I will disagree with your 2nd part of the information being useless in most professions. Almost everyone uses Algebra, Grammar, Reading Comprehension.

I got a 24.
Kind of related, one of my best friend’s mom made him go and take it again to try and get some scholarship money. The rest of us built a turkey blind and we’re going hunting that Saturday.
Needless to say, buddy got FOMO, so once the test started he said he didn’t bring a phone, set an alarm, it goes off like 30 minutes in and he gets kicked out.
Will never forget calling in some toms and then seeing my friend just hauling arse over a hill in his truck driving any kind of wild life in the area away for good and just getting out and acting like nothing happened.

29 taking it once in the mid-1980s. Daughter got a 34 and son scored a 35. They think I'm an idiot.

28
Not sure what my wife (years ago) made but my daughter made a 31 and my son made a 33. Both good enough for sizable scholarships at Alabama.

What you scored on the ACT doesn't mean shite. I took it once, scored a 19. Ended up going to Southern for Electrical Engineering and now grossing over $130k not including bonuses. Throughout my life, I've learned the only way you can truly fail at anything is if:
1. you don't try,
2. you give up, or
3. become complacent.
The reason why I'm sharing this is to encourage the aspiring young people in here who didn't score high on these type of tests that won't prove a damn thing in the grand scheme of your life. As long as you are willing to learn and not settle, you can be successful.
