still you can’t be a dumbass and pass the FE or PE.

You can be a general dumbass but fluent in your field and pass.

Even then, I'm not calling you specifically unintelligent.

I will say, I've known some engineers who, while smart in math, are complete dumbasses in English, geography, and other fields.

Don't act like to be an engineer you have to be a well-rounded educational being.

Hell, I used to write English papers for engineers in college so they wouldn't fail

Don't tell that to an engineer.

I cringe at most emails I read daily. You'll never hear that from me

I guess the thing is what does it matter that you got a 36 on the ACT. It doesn’t mean anything and people are making a big deal about it. What does it get you? Maybe a little more scholarship money to an over priced school to get an art history degree. I just don’t see the big deal about the score you make. I probably am stupid so whatever. Maybe I’m just mad because I’m just now realizing it.

So professional engineering tests are not good barometers for intelligence? So the state engineering boards make you take two exams in order to stamp engineering drawings but yeah the board is giving unintelligent people free reign to stamp drawings. This conversation is going no where fast.

No, IQ is different from knowledge in a specific area. Having knowledge in a particular area doesn't guarantee a high overall IQ. Likewise, you can have a very high IQ and know nothing about engineering. Do you think you could pass the nursing Praxis? Does that mean that you aren't intelligent?

My point was any professional exam you pass shows intelligence.

An 18 is pretty average in LA. At the time you took the test, you were of average GENERAL intelligence on the sections tested. No biggie, you obviously worked hard and were a good student.

An ACT score is a great barometer of college readiness from an intelligence standpoint. It doesn't tell me shite about whether someone is mature enough to handle it, nor does it illustrate whether someone has the self discipline required.

It shows that you have the ability to learn a specific subject. Learning demonstrates some intelligence. No one said that a simpleton can become an engineer, but the fact that you scored an 18 on the ACT and later became an engineer doesn't discredit the validity of the ACT.

I don't understand why people take this as an insult. So what, you weren't the most intelligent person in the world. You worked hard and made something of yourself. Who cares?

After you reach a certain level of intelligence, your intelligence is not a limiting factor. Your work ethic and determination matter more than your general intellect.

And in the end that’s how you get paid and make a living. And hopefully not end up living like 78% of people live.
