A Catholic priest wears instrumental in developing the Big Bang Theory.

Still doesn't mean Jesus had anything to do with it.

You could simply use that same silly answer for the matter and anti matter that started the Big Bang.

I've always laughed at the notion that some people there is no god but believe that there was nothing, then a huge explosion from that nothing that created everything.

And I’ve always laughed at the notion that because we can’t explain or understand something that we can just say God and move on. Ignorance is bliss.

Heat created by massive density over came gravity.

what was it that exploded

Energy

quote:

Where did it come from

It was generated spontaneously

quote:

And what caused whatever that was to explode?

Again, heat created by massive density. i.e. energy.

Reading people's attempts to conclusively answer this question from both polar opposite positions only serves to reaffirm my agnosticism.

Next question that you'll ask; There had to be a beginning?

God's answer - "I am who I am"

Maybe you should try and find God yourself. Not a church or religion per se but God. I think most agnostic people are open to the idea of God. Just find the religion unappealing. At a minimum reading and TRULY understanding the Bible will give you a better understanding of how to be a better person. If it turns out there is no god you've lost nothing. But if it's the other way around then....

Sounds great. But then there's that pesky first law of thermodynamics you have to deal with.

But let's pretend that's not the case.

Generated spontaneously from what?

Wow, you think very deeply. No one has ever pondered such a notion. Let us know what you come up with Socrates.

Using the Bible to glean moral or philosophical principles is one thing. That's something I think believers and disbelievers alike can gain from it. However, the logic of "you should believe just in case" is so far off base from how I approach this question. It's an utterly asinine rationale as far as I'm concerned.
