They slapped a "Jesus is my co-captain" bumper sticker on the back of their raft.

If you are in Boulder Colorado, visit the national headquarters of the Geological Society of America. They have several of the south Pacific "maps" on their wall as both decoration and instruction.

In defense of Chris Columbus, he was aiming for India, but the Americas were in the way.

Seriously, our ancestors were much more in-tune with the rhythms of the earth than we are today. The short answer is ocean currents an stars is how they navigated. The same way hunter gathers would move hundreds of miles without getting lost.

The ocean was 400 feet lower. That’s how they got to South America, by island hopping. There’s a line that goes right to Peru

Probably the same way the Irish and Vikings did it hundreds of year before Columbus, if not thousands.
Too many people have been mistreated by faulty education.
Columbus was trying to go the opposite way to India that many thought was impossible or too log. The idea that people thought the world was flat is a myth. Just one of many links with facts about a spherical planet knowledge. LINK
There was knowledge of the Irish and Vikings trips, just no mention of a warm climate, so they assumed they were going more north. Columbus was trying a southerly route with out any knowledge of land masses.
