There is a lot of menthol cig. brands. I think Newport and Kool locked down the market by mass advertising in urban areas. That simple.

As someone mentioned, advertising. Kools used to be the most popular.

What bottles the mind is that Newports are top-tier cost wise. I think those Indian branded American Spirits are the only cigarettes that cost more than Newports.
