Look at the average 60 year-old of 1980 and compare them to a healthy 60 year-old of today.

Why average vs healthy? Compare average vs average.

Was he?

I mean, Jom Hamm is a good looking guy, but they went out of their way to not get him in great shape. He was just kind of of average built.

Plus, I seem to recall a doctor's visit fairly early in the show and being surprised that he was only in his mid 30's when he kind of looked as decade older.

I think you might be being fooled by how cool the character was. Great suits and sunglasses, powerful, slick, tons of hot women, etc.

It’s a TV show and the actor probably lives a healthy life. But if you look at photos of people from back then, they all look really old for their ages. Life was harder then and most people smoked.

Is that show worth watching in its entirety?

I'm looking for a new show.

Thanks!

Peggy Olson struck a deal with Oil of Olay. Discount ad fees for bulk moisturizers.

A guy in his 30s, with a sedentary job that allows him to drink whiskey and smoke all day every day, would at least be overweight with shaky hands and a cough, and might miss a lot of work.

I was a kid in the 1970s and I remember people in their 60s looking like people in their 80s do now.

I don’t see very many healthy 60 year olds in Louisiana. Most people I’ve known who’ve died in the past 15 years have been in their 50’s and early 60’s.

Absolutely. But it doesn’t end as you would expect.

Here’s a timely comparison. Darren McGavin was around 60 (born 1922) when A Christmas Story was released in 1983 and he certainly looked the age in that film.

He had a portrait in his attic that aged for him.

Great show but my thought with the way these dudes drank, smoked, and ate, they would have felt like shite constantly. No wonder they were depressed.
