Modern snowflakes are desperate to be oppressed and miserable. Maybe they'd enjoy the 1930s. For a few minutes.

What was Brad Pitts character snorting in Inglorious Bastards?
But idk, literally none of us lived in those times as adults (or kids) so I literally do wonder what could fly and what couldn't fly. But I would bet that cocaine was at its purest in those days as far as not getting cut. But who fricking knows.

Ummm then why is it referred to as the roaring 20s?
The economy sucked from late October through December of 1929, is that the period you're referring to?

From 1920-1933(ish) alcohol was illegal as well as the fact that the economy was crap

Jobs were hard to come by. People didn't have the sort of entertainment
You ever heard of the roaring 20's baw? The 20's, during the time, was an awesome time period for young people and entertainment? especially. Music and dancing became socially acceptable and women started to get out of the house more than ever, among other things. The 30's we're obviously terrible, but the 20's we're actually a really good time.

quote:I know. I was trying to have this argument by grouping together everything. Economy went to shite in 1929 for those history buffs like you. 1920's still werent beautiful times imo.

Edit: im not gonna make a timeline for this thread. I mainly meant 1920-1933 as far as prohibtion as stated in subject title.

I'd guess that pure cocaine might have been easier to come by, but the random things that commonly appeared in processed drugs like cocaine was probably pretty bad. Just look at the thread about the radium girls for one example of what ppl were exposed to then.

There was no legal alcohol, bit entertainment reached a new high by a longshot in the 20's. There's no way to know for sure, but I would bet you people during the time thought it was a great period.

My Grandad was born in 1907, orphaned as a young teen. Dropped out of school in the 6th grade when his teacher wrongfully accused him of being disruptive and threatened to whip him, He literally hobo'd around hopping trains in Texas, La., Ark., and Ok. taking odd jobs, picking crops, etc..
He told me of working on the farm his blind Uncle and Aunt had in Oklahoma. Yep, both were blind, eventually the Uncle was a member of the Ok. State Legislature and got some of the 1st disability legislation in the nation passed.
There was no refrigeration, no air conditioning. Most of the nation was still without running water, electricity, and telephones were rare.
He met my grandmother while he was working a truck driving delivery route when he stopped for lunch at a roadside sandwich shop. Kept stopping by every time he was in the area and eventually took another job to be near her, then married, and they only spent 3-4 years anywhere else before moving back to this same piece of land I am living on now.
ETA: Want to know how brutal physically times were there then. Check out some of the historic sites around Ok. and Tx and the plantation houses. Even the very wealthy had crap for comforts as compared to today. Lots of the Oil Barons places scattered around Eastern Oklahoma have been preserved and turned into museums to be toured. Woolaroc, the Phillips Homes, Will Rogers Home, etc..

By technicality you could if you walked into the right place, but thats just a pain in the arse to deal with hiding it.
You didn't have to hide it that well. Production, importation, distribution, and sales were prohibited. Possession and consumption remained legal in most states.
