Charlottesville and the surrounding area is beautiful

The job market, economy, and highly educated population make the state. Better than 90% of places out there for those reasons alone.

I lived in Blacksburg for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. Probably my favorite place I’ve ever lived.

it’s not that bad since pay is obviously higher than many places in the country.
Although I guess it all depends what he does.
A Hill staffer is dirt poor... a first year person at Deloitte or something similar starts at like 70K.
It is a great city for young people.

The only good thing about Virginia is native son, Bruce Randall Hornsby.

Indiana says hold my beer. I lived there for a year when I was a young man. What makes it worse is the women are so ugly. A two in Louisiana is an absolute ten in Indiana

Yup, he's as good as they come. Listened to his cover of Jack Straw last night.

What’s your opinion on Hornsby’s journey into different musical tastes ? Certainly not the same artist soundwise as he was during the late 80’s. Sounds totally different ??

I lived in DC for 2 years, then Clarendon for another year, then Williamsburg for 4 years. Virginia is awesome except for stupid car tax. If I could afford to live in DC again with 2 kids I would or near great falls. Both my sons were born in Virginia and i could retire in the valley one day. Miss having 4 seasons the most, summer only lasts about 2 months

Sure, lots of suburbs around NoVa and the metropolises. And I work with people that barely venture out except to shop or for kid's soccer. But there's also lots of outdoor opportunities for those of us that care...there's more miles of the AT in Virginia that any other state, plenty of rivers to kayak and trout fish in, mountainbike trails, the Chesapeake for sailing and fishing. Even a few places to ski in the winter. It's all out there in a one or two hour drive.
Spent last weekend at my buddy's on the Chesapeake enjoying buckets of oysters and live blue grass. This weekend headed for the mountains for a hike and then hit a winery and brewery off 151 in Nelson County. Come on over, we'll change your mind.

My wife works for our local museum so we honeymooned in Gordonsville. Did Monticello, Montpelier and Highlands while we were there. It was an absolutely stunning area.

Richmond is a mere retirement village in comparison to New Orleans, Charleston, Nashville, Savannah, Memphis, and so forth.
You concluded the entire state of Virginia and Virginians are boring based off of a short stay in Richmond? Then you compare Richmond to other southern cities; not VA to other southern states. Not following your logic.
Richmond is probably not as interesting as those other cities but as others have pointed out there are a lot of interesting/fun things to do in Virginia. What do you find interesting?

I'm a history buff so I absolutely love Virginia. I live in Alexandria and the night life (when we aren't shuttered by pandemics) is fairly vibrant in Old Town.
quote:It's the kind of place where Thomas Jefferson once gave $50 to my church's building fund. And Patrick Henry defended our first pastor, Jeremiah Moore, for being a Baptist and preaching in a era when it was illegal to do so if you weren't Anglican. He was jailed three times and preached from the windows of the jail in Old Town. Moore would go on to write to Thomas Jefferson and influence passage of the First Amendment (religious liberty was very important to early Baptists because they were often persecuted for not belonging to the state church).
And if you need something “quaint” in the area there’s always Old Town Alexandria which includes George Washington’s church.
