Lawmakers at every level have been a lot more friendly to self driving cars than I ever anticipated they would be with the jobs implications. If these kind of lawsuits become a problem I expect there will be caps put in place like you're suggesting.

but then you have to argue who is ultimately at fault

We are so close to the self driven truck. Some think we're going to lose more than just those jobs soon.

I agree with the poster who said that insurance will be more like homeowners.
I do think there will be something like a cyberattack policy that would protect you from having your car hacked, which imo, is a much greater risk than the AI just going haywire.

Hacking will end only when AI becomes self aware. A self-driving car that can distinguish between a hacker and a legit programmer will make for a safer world.
