All of the SOS computers were shut down one day last week as a precaution.

That’s all I got.

I know of one school system that has been completely offline for over a week.

Did Edwards really declare it an "emergency"

I keep getting sales emails from ITSec vendors stating LA is in a state of "cyber-emergency"

So the teachers can still spend all night grading papers, now they just won’t be able to post about it.

It is high time to place the blame for Louisiana's bad education system where the blame belongs -- RUSSIA !!!

I believe it was a ransomware attack. Sounds like the state is now spinning up a state level department to address cyber issues across agencies that do not have dedicated security departments.

I know of one school district that was knocked offline for 5 days. Everything is back up and running now.

Generally, the attack only hits a small part of the network, but the immediate response is to shut everything down to prevent additional issues. 98% of systems probably could continue to work, but they get shut down out of caution until the threat is completely gone and removed.

CCH, a huge provider in the accounting, tax, and legal space, got hit like this a couple of months ago. They provide a lot of cloud software and the entire damn thing was shut down for three days in the middle of a work week.

As to what's being done... expect stronger passwords and other protocols.

Has the new School Boards President address it? It seems like she would should be making statements daily.
I've heard a lot of good things about her, but it appears that she is keeping this too close to the vest.
