I am willing to put up with less comfort and service to save money but some would disagree.

I am too, within reason. How much money am I saving, how long is the flight, when does it leave/arrive, is it direct, and so on?

as others have said, not a big deal as long as you go in not expecting a first class experience. Small seats and typically a bit lower class clientele.

People complain bigly about their customer service but they helped me out last time I flew them, switched from Houston to Nola for the BYU LSU game for free during Harvey and still got to attend the event. Every airline has horror stories.

All flights to me the same… I mean you can’t upgrade to “if it fall out the sky we’ll all be fine”

My best tip.

If possible pay for the Big Front Seats or exit row. If not possible at least try to be in front of the wings. The really cheap seats are behind the wings.

The flights aren't that bad. I've taken them to Orlando and LA. The seats don't recline. And they have less legroom if you don't get an exit row or BFS. With the big front seat it's a nice flight actually. You pay for your drinks but I usually drink whiskey on a plane anyway.

I've flown IAH to TPA several times via Spirit and it has never been an issue.

Picture a third world regional flight. Now imagine the same flight without the chickens, goats etcetera. Add Spirit to the side of the plane.

shite the first, last, and only time I ever used spirit was during this same time period and they refused to cancel the flight out of Houston during Harvey. By some chance, the flight ended up being on the literal day the airport re-opened with no ability to drive to the airport.

As I was taking off from MSY on the same day, I got a notification from Spirit that they were boarding and I hadn't checked in

If there were 5 people on that plane, I'd be shocked. No way they didn't commit outright fraud that day.

Sprit is all A320s. Southwest is all 737s.

There is a difference between the two most popular local value carriers. (Though southwest isn't in the cheaper end as often anymore)

Spirit uses a thinner more upright seat than the rest of the airlines. Their seats look more like seats on a transit train or bus. Fixed plastic with a cover.
Noticeably less legroom

Then the only airline with worse customer service than Spirit, Jetblue, just bought Spirit.

Do it. I'd fly Spirit if its a direct flight. Layover, better chance you could get kicked off due to over booking.

Never flown Spirit, but flew Allegiant from Asheville to Destin this summer.

Imagine a bunch of Hillbillies going to the beach…on a plane. Felt like at least a third were flying for the first time. Lady next to me on the return flight said it was her first flight and she had to be 65.

I went on one. The flight attendant looked like a character from Rocky Horror and I think his name tag said “Satan.” Other than that, it was pretty uneventful.

I've booked Spirit twice. For one, American got me to my destination. For the other, it was United. Haven't actually flown on a Spirit flight. I'm not convinced their planes actually leave the airport.

American is by far the worst carrier flying in the US today. They canceled all four legs of my recent trip and will not reimburse me for anything. Ended up sleeping in an airport overnight, along with the entire flight crew. Pilots said the company is an absolute disaster at the moment.

I worked with a black girl who flew Spirit once with her daughter and she said she would never do it again. She essentially called it Soul Plane when she had a black woman, sitting behind her, dropping F bombs the entire flight.

I've had more cancellations and delays flying the major airlines than I've had using budget airlines.
