What's your handicap?

I'm a lifelong golfer that hits the ball about as far as the lower level PGA players (albeit not nearly as consistently straight). I'm a 7 handicap that has played some world renowned courses and fared decently well.

And I would get arse raped with no lube by Augusta National.

I played May River Golf Club this year in Palmetto Bluff and the greens were rolling at a 13 and the surroundings felt very similar to Augusta. I played very, very well and shot 86 with a personal caddie. That round would've been a 75 on my home course.

They have similar slope ratings (Augusta and May River), so I'm thinking that is a 66 for a pro (good round for them vs. 86 a good round for me on same course). I gave myself 30 instead of 20 though because Augusta just eats you alive on some holes and I'm sure the pressure would crush me as well.

ETA:

Also greatly depends on who I'm playing.

I’d guard against the center not being forward.

tl/dr: The Freak Defense with not hold up in Court.

I used to be a pretty good athlete but I’ve just not been motivated to stay active the last six months or so. City league basketball starts tonight and I’m scared it’s going to be brutal on me.

This is what getting old feels like, doesn’t it?

This is my favorite question of the bunch and I bet a lot of OTers who don't follow sports much won't realize how fricking bad women are at basketball and will call bullshite on people replying "yes".

The LSU mens intramural champs would crush UConn women. Like, embarrass them. Women suck at fricking sports, but basketball especially.

Most decently athletic young(ish) men that played basketball a lot growing up would make a decent D1 women's team roster.

fricking lol. You aint breaking 100 at Augusta bro.

Exactly. This guys saying they could stay within 30 of a tour player at Augusta are nuts.

With Sunday pins, playing from the pro tees, no one on this board would break 100 and most would not break 120. They would putt the ball off of the green no less than 6 times in the round. They would probably have more 3 putts than 1 and 2 putts. One pro, I think it was Snead but correct me if I am wrong, said he could gift an amateur every green in regulation and if he was allowed to place the ball on the green they still would not break 100. That's over 64 putts, folks.

Over 3.5 putts per hole. With the stipulation that the pro is placing the ball on the green, that's not surprising.

Friend of mine's dad got to play a round at Augusta. He is a solid golfer (7 or 8 handicap), and he said that if you truly played every shot down and played by every USGA or PGA rule...most weekend warriors would shoot a 120-130 there. He said he could not adequately describe how difficult that course is. Esp the greens. Said it was absolutely brutal.

Man, you're being extremely hyperbolic and projecting your own golf game onto others.

I've shot mid-80s on Pebble from the tips and several other courses with similar slope ratings and green speeds to Augusta. And I chose 30 because I know some pins would wreck me and I'd have a 4 putt or two, but 30 is a good O/U. I've putted on greens that felt like wooden table tops. May River was rolling at a 13 this Fall when I played it and the Masters usually rolls at a 12, which is slightly slower.

Assuming a pro shoots 69, that's 99 for me. I haven't shot that high since I was in 14/15 years old, and like I said I've played longer courses that were crazy hard in their own right.

To a golfer that doesn't play a lot, sure 120 is probably right. Some of us have played competitive golf most of our youth and play quite frequently as adults. Augusta isn't some ridiculous US Open course. I know a handful of guys from Atlanta that have played it (from the tips) that are scratch golfers give or take a couple and most of them shot high 70s/low 80s.

ETA:

The guy saying 10 strokes is likely full of shite though, unless he's a scratch or better and plays top level golf courses routinely with 10+ green speeds.

You'd have to play by the rules and count all your strokes in this scenario.

How many meters head start would you need to beat Usain Bolt in a 100m dash?- no idea

How many meters would you need to beat Michael Phelps at his peak in the 200m swim?- no idea, probably a larger head start than the foot race though

How many shots would you need to beat a tour player at Augusta National?- no idea

Could you walk a marathon tomorrow?- easily

Would you make 50 out of 100 free throws?- Easily

Could you make 4 out of 10, 25 yard field goals with no defense?- Easily

Guys: Would you make a good D1 women’s basketball team?- I could start in the WNBA and dominate the paint

Wait a second, no one stipulated this in the OP

But forreal, 99 is absolutely doable for me on that course, especially with a caddie.

The saddest part about this is that I'll never know. Maybe one day I'll fake cancer to get some sympathy from a member and get on

I mean, to golfers, $450 for an elite round of golf walking with a personal caddie is not that bad

I usually pony up a couple times a year for rounds like that at big time courses. In the grand scheme, I could have more expensive hobbies

And it was topical. Same region as Augusta and similar green speeds/difficulty. May River is a Nicklaus course and is really difficult. A guy in our group shot a goddamn 71 and took all of our money though (he's good enough for Korn Ferry tour probably though).

I could make 50 of 100 ft's fairly easily.

The rest, it's been too long since I've tried any of those sports to know. On the D1 women's team, I doubt I have the cardio right now. I'd be Nikola Jokic and look like I'm about to barf on my shoes after 30 seconds.
