My cousin just bought a place in the Marigny or Bywater and it was $450k. I couldn't fricking believe it costs that much for a house there now.

Well then, and I mean this with all sincerity, good for you. I seriously wish I could be happy living somewhere where just over $150 per square foot is considered booming. It would be really nice.
Unfortunately, the average price per square foot (based off my lazy Google search) here is just shy of $500 per square foot. But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Honestly, I don't know what the average is. But I can tell you that the largest place I've lived in up here was about 750sqft. When I was at lsu it was about 1700sqft.

Pretty much any city has seen crazy real estate inflation....stuff around me that was 200k 4 years ago is 400k now.....and it's shitty 3 Br 2 bath ranch style. I blame Obama cate.

I definitely don't think what I deal with is unique to every other major city in the country, I was just saying I wish I had the luxury of worrying about $157 per square foot. But I don't, and it's because I choose to live where I do.

Rents have sky rocketed most every where. DALLAS HAS always BEEN AN AFFORDABLE CITY ....BUT NOT ANYMORE. I'm not sure where all these wealthy renters are coming from.....but I own rental property so....come to popa. ....actually I try to keep my rents on the low side. People seem really grateful to rent a 1 Br for under 1000

I would consider Dallas on the list of larger, more expensive places to live. Albeit on the lower end of that list.
Again, I pay over $2k a month for a 1 bedroom, and that's average, if not below average. I used to pay close to $3k.
But apparently only New York City and San Francisco are more expensive to live in.
