Take a good look at Ring doorbell and security camera. We installed the Ring doorbell 3 years ago. Basically a motion sensor, doorbell, and intercom in one.
Most thieves come to front door and ring bell or knock to make sure no one is home. Ring works 2 ways. If someone walks up and hits doorbell, the video and sound come up on your phone. You can see and speak to them. Acts like an 8ntercom so they don’t know if you are in the house or not. 2nd way it works is as a motion sensor so anytime anyone walks within range, the video and sound pop up on your phone. You can just watch them or you can speak to whoever is there.
Ring stores images for various lengths of time, I think ours are stored for 30 days. FYI... now they have a Ring motion light with same camera intercom system. Put it over garage facing drive and you can see people approaching the house basically in real time.
Take a look. We see Fedex, UPS, etc... dropping packages, etc...if out of town can call a neighbor to grab them. Just a great security product.

I just don't get why people don't have security systems. Most likely the person who broke in knew you didn't have a security system and from your list, that could be a number of people. If you had a security system these people wouldn't have targeted you. If it was truly someone random then they would have likely bolted the minute the alarm sounded, you would have still had a broken window/door to deal with but most likely they wouldn't have taken anything or had the time to take very much.
We got cameras this week, mainly because I get nervous around the holidays since we do all of our shopping online and I want one pointed at our front door in case someone steals any packages.

Ironically, I was researching the flood light variant the morning of the break-in. The cam I'm getting with our security system does the same thing other than the intercom function. It will still alert me so I can call the cops.

So you see some person in a hoodie and shades stealing your packages and you have it recorded then what? Unless by some miracle you recognize the person stealing your package, or get the license plate it is pretty much a waste of money.

Yeah, I'm with you. You just take your security for granted sometimes. Complacency and not wanting to part with the money. I've considered one a few times, but have never pulled the trigger. I have now.

No, no telecom work. Just the A/C really. And the ones I know of in Oconee were off Hwy 53 in the "Dark Corners" area.

They arrived in under 7 minutes last Tuesday. I'll take my chances versus nothing at all.
As far as people stealing packages off porches, yeah, not much you can do on that. I don't know about the other guy, but my target is the guy planning on being around for 10 minutes or so.

I am, but I do appreciate you saying that. My wife is especially torn up about her Granny's stuff being gone, but I know it will get better and her Granny wouldn't have blamed her, nor cared. Same for my dad.

It's pretty much the area of Oconee down 53 past T's Corner (might include the Oconee Crossing subdivision and Striplings, too). Ashland, the new elementary school, Sim's Crossing, Hebron Church Road.....all of that area.
