Last night on HTV, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet talked about the parish’s upcoming plans for Mardi Gras.

During the interview, he revealed that Houma’s 2021 west side parades will feature a new twist, a new route.

Instead of the traditional route that starts at the mall and ends at Barrow Street by Town Hall, next year’s parades will follow a reverse route. The parades will stage at the Houma Terrebonne Civic Center and then line up down Barrow Street, and start throwing once the parade is by Town Hall. The parade will then follow the reverse route until it reaches the mall to disband.

Are all the floats pulled by gators and airboats down there?

Massive reason not to. The reverse ride is a terrible idea. Every rider prefers to end the night at Downtown Houma, than at the mall. The reasoning is that the Kings toast takes a while, so they would rather start it at the beginning because it would mean the "larger crowds" would disperse earlier. What it really means is that most of the people who watch it DT, are now going to hope in their vehicles and drive closer to the mall to catch it again, creating larger crowds closer to the more "family friendly" areas.

Sounds like they are doing this to help the parades flow faster and have less of a wait by doing the toasting at the end. I am really not for it but whatever.....

Inside source told me that they may cancel Mardi Gras also this year due to the Police force is worried about more people coming into town since NOLA has canceled. Sheriff Soignet is worried that with more ppl coming in and if things break out there won't have enough cops to handle it all.

I think I would have preferred this when I rode in houma. Get that toast crap out of the way early. Also the downtown crowds are a shell of what they used to be. And much trashier.

I've been hearing that nothing short of nuclear holocaust would force Mamou to cancel Mardi Gras.

Houma Mardi Gras beats Mobile Mardi Gras, but that isn’t saying much

Houma should invite JBE to be the Grand Marshall. Just for fun.

It’s completely irresponsible to have a Mardi Gras at all during these times.

That was the main reason that New Orleans and Louisiana had such huge numbers. You only have yourself to blame for your businesses and jobs being shut down!

It's cute you think we can actually stop this virus from spreading through the entire population.

Its the exact same route, with the exact same traditions, but you move the end to the beginning. You aren't making it quicker, and in fact, you are causing even more traffic. For those who haven't been to a Houma Parade, once the end of the parade passes, they open up everything behind it to traffic to allow traffic to disperse. You are now going to stop traffic from flowing on the major part of the route for much longer than you originally would have if you left it alone.
