Which generation effed it up for everyone else? As a little kid growing up in 70's, a diving board was required for us to stay there. Never once came close to getting hurt. Father flew helos in Navy, so we travelled a lot.

Insurance companies killed the diving board

But you can only blame lawyers and insurance companies if people were getting hurt. What dumbasses were getting hurt?

Diving boards were replaced by lift chairs to make the pools handicap accessible.
The handicapped people were probably injured using the diving boards of yore.

They can just roll into the zero entry pools.

It's not just hotels. Now you have to hide the diving board and trampoline when you do home insurance inspections.

diving boards in 8-9 foot deep pools went the way of Lawn Darts from the 70's. They were never a good idea.
nobody wants to take care of a pool that is 12' deep.

8-9' is plenty of room for low diving board. How is that the diving boards were safe for decades, then not allowed by hotels?

The Ramada Inn in Biloxi had a good one.

Around here they were often stolen by people who would then install them on their dock at their camp on the bayou.

Bro, please tell me you're not a lawyer. That case is inapposite.

Yea. I bet you wish we could still drive Pintos, too

Baby Boomer lawyers.
You mean millennial lawyers. The boomer lawyers dove off those boards like they were going out of style when they were kids.

When I was kid every municipal pool and country club pool worth a shite had this set up.
I do have a good friend that was paralyzed diving from a diving board at another friends house. Happened a week after he graduated high school.

What happened?
And yet another reason I don't want a pool at home. I feel for the paralyzed guy, but to have that on your conscience for the rest of your life is would be awful knowing he was hurt in your pool.
