They build interstates to serve populations and logistical needs, not for the most direct route. Running it and connecting it to Lafayette and I10 makes a lot more sense than running it through Marksville and New Roads so you can get to BR 40 minutes faster.

Just re-route I-12 as an elevated expressway up north at Airline Hwy up to the new MS river bridge in St. Francisville then have it follow LA 1 up toward A-town
I'm even more aggressive on that route. Cut it over from Grosse Tete area, Audubon bridge, back to 12 around Holden. By pass should be a bypass.

At this point I’d settle for improvements to LA-1 between BR and Alec. They don’t even have to 4-lane it or anything. Just add passing lanes every so many miles so you aren’t stuck behind a tractor or something for 30-60 miles like you will be today.
