I flew out of Albuquerque during the balloon festival. There were many balloons and they were just to the north and west of the climb out of the plane.
A friend of a friend of a friend also did this and did not understand the concept. They thought there would be just hot air balloons floating around there all day.
They did not know you have to get up early in the morning to see them take off and fly away.
They got up around 10, took showers, had breakfast, etc. Went out there around noon.
Nothing

I went last year and there was a total of 3 balloons
I think there were 8 or 9 balloons last year. It was more of a community event with local vendors and bands.
It was also well attended and free. I don’t see the problem.
Pictures from last year:

The balloon festivals in BTR coincided with some rich families' interest in ballooning. Balloon were a common enough afternoon sight, even without a festival. One evening a balloon had a hard landing on Twisted Oak after passing through the crown of my sweetgum and smashing a wax myrtle. They didn't hang away to discuss damages.
The decline in festivals probably coincided with a declining interest on the part of the money folks and the loss of open-field landing sites E, N and S of the city.

They have a couple throughout the year in CO. One of the cool things about the front range is you can see for like 30 miles up and down it and I saw the one in Frederick CO on my commute one morning. Just randomly seeing a dozen of em was pretty cool.

Is Louisiana the only place to host a balloon festival with no actual ballooning?
The one they had in Gonzales years ago had many balloons. I think it was the Lamar Dixon site.
They also had a huge one many years ago at the BR Fairgrounds

That Balloon Race is the week before Indian Market in Santa Fe.
Check into the Best Western, get up and open the curtain to your room and watch them lift off.

Natchez Balloon Festival is always great and in the cooler month of October.
This will be our 9th year in a row going. They set up TVs on the Rosalie grounds along the bluff so you don't have to miss any football.

The one in Natchez is a lot of fun

Natchez has/had one, it’s been a few years since I’ve been. Live music, even saw Tab Benoit there one year, good food, lots of different sites, lol…

Jackson, Michigan used to have a good one.
They have a Vietnam memorial waterfall on a big hill there.
They would put a fire engine ladder truck with the ladder extended upwards with New Car keys for anyone who would/could float by and grab'em on top of the hill.
Good times..,
