These conversations are for if it comes to that. Planning for worst case scenario.

Nobody signed up for being exposed to a pandemic with substandard or no protective equipment. It’s a terrible situation both ways, but to act like this is what anybody “signed up for” is idiotic.

There is a risk of working with sick patients. This isn't the only pandemic ever. People are regularly in and out with the flu. There is a wide variety of things that can get transferred to healthcare professionals.

Did your parents have you in their 50s or some shite?

Nope
My parents aren’t old (60’s) & in good health
I have a 94 year old Grandpa that also has a DNR (also in good health)

That’s why I asked, I thought it was more common than it apparently is

It really doesn’t have to do with age, the healthiest person in the world can get in an accident & require machines to keep them alive

And it's understood that in a first world country that those risks are eliminated/mitigated with provided PPE.

Would you want your pregnant nurse of a wife getting sprayed with COVID droplets because she had to reuse or go completely without necessary PPE?

Help is on the way for hospitals in dire need. Close friend in Navy with ties to the medical side said Corpsmen have been given orders to report to medical hospital ships. They are deploying to areas where needed to help take on patients at hospitals at full capacity.

As Tiguar said, cardiac arrest secondary to respiratory failure is a hopeless case. The patient isn’t coming back,it’s a waste of time and resources and in the case of corona virus an unnecessary risk to the staff.
I’ve been forced to participate in CPR in many hopeless cases, even patients eaten up with cancer because the family wanted “everything done”.
Afterwards I would feel dirty,as if I had violated them.

Hospitals have to consider lots of things and do drills for all sorts of,” what if” scenarios. That doesn’t mean the scenario will ever materialize.

The chances of rosc in covid patients is very low. And even if you achieve getting a pulse back, you still have not cured the virus that is causing the illness, more so why the patients code in the first place - most are due to irreversible affects of acute respiratory distress syndrome from the virus or ARDS, so it’s either a respiratory arrest on a vent or in combination with a full blown sepsis arrest from infected blood stream and vasodilation of blood pressure.

Once you are intubated, then develop ARDS, and maxed on ventilator settings at 100% oxygen and the highest pressure settings, along with all the antibiotics and blood pressure support medications you can be on...

Then coding patients with Covid who present like this is futile.

Don’t read news articles at face value

So wash your hands and avoid people during this time. It sounds stupid. But it can save lives

This is not Europe. They want their arse sued off? Let them stand by and watch someone die because they decided on their own that DNR was the course of action.

I'm plenty aware. My mom (no pics) was the CEO of a hospital in south LA.

That’s cool - which one?

Yeah if that could be proven that's a wrongful death lawsuit

I'm no scholar on licensing but I wouldn't be surprised if someone's license could be revoked over that as well

Incident command in most systems, this is true. They're already to that in many areas. Beaumont in Detroit for example.
